World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

Hmm just tried and there's a very minimal moment of flicker as a page loads and the game cards are still grey, but once loaded there is no flicker. I only have gsync set to full screen though as don't want/need it in anything that isn't full screen.

Have you guys enabled a screen saver? Not used one of those since CRT days (not sure why as some do look cool) :)

I set it to come on after 1 minute, so far it has not got in the way. Also set the display to turn of after 5 minutes. Going to test and see how that works out for me and adjust it to suit my needs until I find the sweet spot. I mean I could even just not bother with the screen saver and just stick with the screen turning off if I wanted, but been a long time since I used it so fancy sticking with it for a while.

I know we have 3 years warranty, but I will likely keep this monitor a lot longer than that so might as well be careful with it just in case. Not bothered with anything else like hiding the taskbar etc.

What measures have you taken or intend to take?

I just run in SDR the majority of the time and my brightness is only set to 25%, is plenty bright for my use case. Having a reasonable brightness and not running HDR constantly will significantly increase the lifespan.

Something else i came across the other day is that QD displays are actaully significantly better for your eye health.
The blue QD that was chosen is low enought energy and with a tight enough energy distribution that it reduces the emission of blue light that is harmful to eye health and sleep.

They were saying that compared to a regular LCD display it can cut harmful blue light by 40-50+%. All while not having an impact on colour accuracy. Since most of that harmfull blue light is on the edge of or outside of human vision.

Do you guys fear burn in or just worried about peak brightness performance reducing over time due to the nature of it being an organic display?

Increasing longevity is always a nicety, but my screen is also setup to feel comfortable to work on for long periods.
I only flick it into HDR if i go to play something in HDR. Leaving HDR on all the time prevents manual brightness adjustment.

Yeah that way to low for me. I am at like 63 for brightness :p

I agree though, the monitor will be in SDR majority of the time and 63 according to Vincent is 140 nits which is not much.

Fear, not really. Just want to ensure longevity.

Not like I am going out of my way with all sorts of things like hiding task bar etc. Just a simple screen saver :)

Oh and it was a typo in my earlier post, my screen is set to turn off every 15 minutes, not 5. What I did notice is though the one time so far it kicked in it actually turned the screen off completely and I had to use the button to turn it back on. On my 4K monitor it would be more like a standby where as soon as I move the mouse the screen would come back on. Will be doing a clean install of Windows 11 at some point today anyway so will see if it is the same again then, still on Windows 10 at the moment.

No movement on mine with a shipping date of the sixth either.

Still hard to believe you can get these for under £800 really. Might have to wait fr new orders, but get in there I say!

Well seems like you have to get a bit lucky to get the compensation to get it under £800 considering some of us got a hard no from multiple reps. I sent a second ticket in on friday about compensation since others have gotten it and the response was bizarrely I needed to contact technical support instead????? I don't even have the product to have technical support issues with...

Not been massively impressed by their support in terms of them actually reading what I'm writing. I had the same issue with my first ticket where they kept talking about a parts delay when that wasn't what I was talking about. I dunno if they get paid on how many tickets they get through in a day and that's why it's so bad, or what.

Overall I wouldn't be so bothered about a delay if it does end up shipping this week (though it's a bit of a kick in the teeth considering I'd have had it on launch if I could have kept my original order and they just added the discount on...), but feels a bit unfair some are getting discounts in the same situation while others are being told no.

Ah whhops I was including the £100 cashback from the credit card offers in that too. So £847 seems to be the norm for many after codes are applied.

Shame about the CS yeah, that does need work.
