World of Warcraft - Blizzcon 2011

Is that if you buy a 12 month subscription?

Looks like they could be fearing the launch of The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2, by trying to get people on a 12 month paid sub.

They want to be worried.

The announcement of this expansion has turned me from not interested in trying SWTOR to really considering pre-ordering it. I imagine there may be one or two others out there as well.

Oh come off it with the "WoW should be worried" - we've been here before.

First it was Guild Wars.
Then Age of Conan.
The SW Galaxies.
There was also LOTR online.
And D&D online.
And Aion.

And guess what? WoW is still the top MMO by light years, it's not even remotely close. I really want Blizzard to try innovating with WoW but there's just no need. And they have very little reason to be scared, the reason for the 12 month subscription offer is that they tie you in for that time, whether you play it or not.

WoW hadn't lost over half a million subscribers in the year before any of those releases though. Theres also the fact EA/Bioware are probably the first company with the same kind of financial support as Blizzard.

FYI: Galaxies is older than WoW.

WoW is losing subs because it's stale and boring, not because anything is taking members away from it. And even then, WoW can lose 500K from it's userbase and still be miles ahead of the competition.

Trust me, I don't like it much, it's just how it is, and i'm fed up of seeing the "next MMO" hyped as a "WoW killer" only to fall on it's face in record time. The AoC thread was utterly comical for that.

hahahah wth, wow is turning in to an actual joke, die already.

Kung fu panda meets WoW

Yawn, what a boring comment.

I am actually excited for this expansion. Cataclysm was 'ok', at least this expansion looks slightly comical while maintaining what WoW is all about.... a great MMO experience that 'just works' imo.

Bring on the Panda's and Monks!

I wasn't trying to make a doom and gloom wow killah! point.

I just find of all the directions they can take the game with a competitor on the horizon going all Disney on us with wow pokemon and more simplification of talent trees did not really make me leap out of my chair and know that I will be sticking with wow

SWTOR made a bold move with story driven, voice acting characters to make it more interesting from a solo prospect and then introduced companions which is another interesting feature. WoW seems to be suggesting introducing public quests and... well thats about it.

As I say I do not particularly care which game has the most subs, I would want to stick with and enjoy wow but I just find myself massively underwhelmed where every previous expansion had me going "omfg I need to play this!"

I really dont understand why Pandarans are getting so much hate and the way people are insisting they will end the game.

People said the same thing about Worgen and that worked out fine.

Well the talent trees are getting a right fudging up the bum!

No real definition between trees will only lead to "healers" trying to heal when the time for for DPS in LFG is too long /sigh

Pretty much this - I actually think some of the things they are adding in this new expansion are interesting and definitely think that the public quest system / Diablo style talents are a move in the right direction. (Not a fan of panderans in general but that's another story.)

I couldnt see myself resubbing again though.

I think if/when they decide to make their next MMO they will have learned some pretty huge lessons from wow development - smaller scale endgame pve/public quests is one. Also just having side things to do like the pokemon-esque addition.

Another pretty good example is rated battlegrounds - when the community said 'we want rated battlegrounds' what they meant was that they want high end pvp gear for doing bgs (or maybe be rewarded for individual performance), not that they wanted to find a group of 10 people to queue with.

I think they'd go a long way to easing the confusion over the talent changes by just renaming the system, its nothing remotely like WoW's original talent system and is more like selectable abilities.

As someone said to one of my earlier posts, it really is Diablo 3 meets WoW.

I played WoW since beta. I cannot remember anytime they offered subscription incentives/bonuses. Getting people into 12 month agreements is just one way of keeping players from other subsription games. (EG, the person who can only afford to subscribe to 1 game only).

To anounce this 2 months before another mega rich/hyped famous IP mmo launches is a pre-emptive strike at attaching subscribers to WoW, who can't afford to pay for 2 games.

Don't get how you can be thinking meh already, it sounds like the first decent expansion since Burning Crusade, at least they are finally doing new stuff.

Talent tree definition will come from spec abilities tied to your spec of choice not from talents that you pick every 15 levels. This adds a whole level of diversity this game has never really had. Will be a bitch to balance, but the overall sentiment is interesting.

Thought about the pokemons and the concept kind of grows on me. Gives you an incentive to go out in the world and certainly provides a time sink to those who have little interest in traditional pvp and pve contents.

Challenges = evolved achievements, nuff said. As long as they keep adding new ones with each patch should stay interesting.

Scenarios = public quests, again win if it brings the community closer especially that no roles equal no huge queues.

Overall I'm pretty stoke for this expac and that's coming from someone who missed out on cata and most of wrath.

Have to say, besides the pandas which I still think is silly, the expansion in general looks very interesting, lots of nice new features.

The Paladin talent tree is massively underwhelming, our T5 is made up of 3 talents which given the choice from a tanking PoV I would take none of, even thinking from a DPS or Healing PoV their almost useless.

Unless they have some massive ability changes coming up, I don't see how they can justify the tree.

Eh, said I'd never get into it again but the new class could be fun up to max level then quitting. The most fun I've ever had is leveling with my brother/friends.
So we'd all make Monks in a trinity setup tank/dd/healer.

Otherwise no other interest, swtor is my main.
