World of Warcraft Cataclysm Thread

The reason they always quoted was a lot of the views were fake. Like the back drops in Stormwind. They going to have to build them for real now. So, while it might look the same it technically not the same game world.

Yes Stormwind and the other faction cities had problems if you was to use a flying mount over them but Blizzard saying the world would have to be remade was a total lie.

Checking the trailer I was not impressed all they did was get someone to play in the map editor and slap in 5 year old textures/sprites from the database.

Blizzard, are "re doing" the old world. Everything, is going to be updated, an excuse for a bit graphical over hall ? finally listening to the fans who have been saying update old world ?

The whole thing strikes me as fan expansion. People, like me, wanted Azeroth update, flyable and finished off. They didn't like how Blizzard seemed to be sidelining it. Other people, not me, wanted to play Goblins.

I think the expansions sounds great! Addressing the problem with MMOs where old content gets sideline in favour for the bigger and better things else where. Plus makes the world dynamic and not static, which I always thought what MMOs were about. Until I played them and found out there were more static then single player games.

Isn't that the best kind of expansion though? a lot of us are getting a lot of content that we want. I mean Heroic Deadmines? Seriously, who wouldn't want that?

When WoW was first created they weren't able to get the engine to handle the entirety of Azeroth as being fully flyable, but now they've obviously got the engine in a state to support that and that is why they are adding the ability in. It seems to be a natural option for them to add it since being restricted to flight in Outland and Northrend is rather pointless and doesn't really fit in with the whole background lore and story of WoW (Gryphon riders for example).

Blizzard seem to be pretty much in control with what they want, and I know that they will have listened to some fan comments and criticisms, but they know the direction that they want to take their game and they will see it through.

I am very excited about the expansion. I think it brings a lot of really good changes. There are a few bits that I don't agree with, but if like me you were wondering just exactly what they were going to do this time to keep us playing, and they have totally surprised me and surpassed my expectations with what they are doing this time around.

hmm with all the new world geting updated what level do you start off at? or is there going to be new zones to level up to 85 in?

I don't see them letting you start any higher than normal, and I'm sure that you'll still be able to level in most of the starter areas, just with perhaps a few new quests. I'll be interested to see how they handle all of this actually. Quests like the Defias quest chain for Alliance in Elwynn Forest and Westfall are staple quests that should definitely remain. We'll have to keep an eye on the development and any information that they release relating to the changes in the future.

Wonder if they will turn Hogger into a raid boss after the few years of jokes. Itd be nice if the heroics from old world are actually altered to reflect the passing of 5 years.

The Deadmines is a dungeon for players in the high teens, and low twenties.

Heroic, normally means the dungeon is designed for max level characters and is much harder then "normal" dungeons :)

Heroics ramp up the difficulty and rewards for players at the highest level , great to see old content being given a new lease of life and im very tempted to resub for the new expansion.

As someone who barely played - can someone kindly explain the difference between the Deadmines and what will be 'heroic deadmines' ?? :)

Heroic as it stands is a level 80 version of an instance that could otherwise be done on normal at its own level, deadmines for example is like level 18ish.
