World of Warcraft: Classic

Only issue with classic regards classes is will they leave them.as they were? If it's PVE every class HAD to be a certain role or you were not getting in raids.

Paladin DPS LF raid?
Response; hahahaha hahahaha...... Gtfo

It was frustratingly restrictive, it was only PvP where you could have some play about with classes and even then try to go premade in non cookie cutter and most serious players would laugh you out.

Do you think it still will be elitist? If you're not specced 100% or not the right class etc you won't be allowed in a dungeon or raid? I would hope people will be more relaxed and play for the memories, fun and not be such dicks about getting the best group together.

Probably not but if they specify the classes the way they actually were a lot of it wasn't elitist but just realism. The Dps drop off from having, for example, a boomkin/retardin (as they were regularly called) or having a tank who wasn't a warrior or a healer who wasn't a priest was pretty brutal so most guilds who wanted to succeed had to play to the class ideal.

Even playing mage or rogue you had one tree to play in raids or you were mocked (pyro and assassinate iirc) again not for elitist reasons but simply because you would kill success chances.

Be interesting how true they are to classic in that regard and basically make three quarters of class trees non viable in all pve. Even dungeons, tank, healer, mage were 100 percentage locked, you then needed cc (second mage/rogue were best) and a 3rd DPS. Even getting a third DPS slot could be a PITA through the absolute locked in need for cc in dungeons. Trying to do stratholme without 2 cc was almost suicide unless you were overgeared.

Think a lot of people have misted over the class restrictions and if they go true classic there will be a lot of irritated players (I would guess)

I think how elitist the game will be will depend on how vanilla they go with the game, as Warcraft back then to do things at higher levels like raiding was quite elitist as you were forced into roles and specs as lots of specs were useless. But I'd agree with No1newts, it wasn't really elitist and it was just more realistic and having to play the hand that Blizzard dealt.

Without a doubt. I'm hoping for "nearly vanilla" personally (I discussed this with agnes and Tombstone on the first and second page) but I think people have forgotten how bad some of the aspects of vanilla were or nostalgia has glazed their eyes. There is of course the chance they may have actually liked those aspects of the game, but it's really unlikely. I can see why some people love the fact that flight points weren't all connected as I understand that as it makes the game less automatic, even if it's not what I'd prefer, but I cannot see how anyone would want to return to (for instance) a few classes being garbage and most classes having only 1 real viable spec.

My interest in this has waned into near non-existance now. When it was first announced I had hoped it wouldnt be too far away but as it is, its looking like its going to be long enough that I will be playing Pantheon by then, so thats over and out for WoW for me.

The thing is a lot of the difficulty back then was just because the game was new and lack of info and a lot of people were really bad. If they release it as patch 1.12 then it includes a lot of bug fixes and improvements such as the debuff slots and serveral iterations of class tuning. I really can’t see how raids won’t be steamrolled by any half competent guilds as everyone knows the very simple tactics and the mindset is different now for min maxing. It will be fun for nostalgia and I cleared naxx before tbc so I will give a go just for the feeling of 40 mans again, although will people bother when they could do two 20 man if people pull their weight. I just can’t see how it won’t get boring very quickly when content is crushed.

It wasn't just about being elitist, both MC (pre-nerf) and BWL required a very organised group with high end gear to even stand a chance of clearing it. If you didn't have the right classes, it just made a lot of the encounters more difficult, so it didn't make sense to go down that route. To be honest half of the battle was ensuring every single person in the raid was geared up properly i.e. high levels of fire resistance for the Ragnaros fight etc. It took months of raiding, running dungeons, grinding gear/materials etc - all to increase your survivability and DPS. This is what took the most time.

One thing I am concerned about aside from the obvious "I don't have enough time because I'm in a relationship/have a job/children etc", is the longevity of it all. 1.12 will have Onyxia, MC, BWL, ZG, AQ and Naxx - so enough to keep you going for months and months - but after all of that, what comes next?

With any luck, a TBC server.
but even so, I played vanilla for around 2 years and I was no where near done with the game when TBC was released. I hadn't even completed/played through all of the Horde lore, let alone started with Alliance. (yep I was a big lore fan back then)
Same with TBC.

Every thing after Cata didn't really keep me entertained for more than a year though.

Strong nostalgia playing in classic/TBC, I don't know if I'd really want to go through it all again. WoW was a huge time sink for me but I had more free time back then, these days I tend to play stuff that I can drop in/out of easily.

I could be tempted but I'd have to put better control on how much I played versus how much I used to play. I recall 40 man raids being quite good fun though if a bit chaotic.
