World of Warcraft: Classic

Makes me laugh how many people think it's just a case of altering the game version and flicking a switch to enable Vanilla. Gotta give props to the engineers/devs over at Blizz.

I mean, that's how the private servers are. But you are right, I'm glad they are taking their time over it to provide us with a classic experience on a modern code base.

The game code in vanilla was awful, pretty sure that's the reason why they've never been able to change the starting backpack size to 30 slots or whatever, the code was just a load of mumbo jumbo back then. It was pretty much a souped up WC3 engine anyway.

I'm quite looking forward to World of Warcraft Classic, and since it'll probably be included in a standard subscription, I can also play Battle for Azeroth if I want to mix things up as well.

I too am looking forward to Classic WoW. I never played it but started a few weeks after TbC launched. The thing with retail, for me, is my character and his lack of full green bars (Reputation etc) With only having classic I will eventually get these full as there are 4,3445,287 different reps to grind out in retail currently. Same goes with cooking, fishing etc. More time can be spent doing these things knowing I am not 'forced' to speed up levelling to get with the big boys at end game. Taking time to progress my character and train his weapon skills up, make him the best fisherman and chef in Azeroth. Doing all the quests, grinding out those last bits of XP to ding. Grinding that last silver to train up spell.

Can't wait.

Also, anyone starting up a Guild for ocuk? Would be good if we had one for WoW classic.

Good luck "enjoying" grinding the Justicar (iirc) title. I had that in vanilla which was Arathi, alterac and warsong.

It was torture! Warsong was by far and away the worst, you got (will get?) 10 rep per flag capture, 3 flag captures IF you win and talking 40k+ rep (more than that but at least 40) to hit exalted. Do that math you will ******* loathe the place like I did by the end :p

But I was one of only 3 Justicar on the whole realm and 1 of the 2 Alliance Grand Marshals :D in retrospect a complete waste of hours of my life but meh :p:D

I was Field Marshal and Justicar. Never went GM as I was hunter and had Ashjrethul and Spear from AQ so never needed the weapons. Never found it a grind as such as it was all part of getting to Grand Marshal.

I just went for it because I wanted the title not necessarily for weapons. I loved the world PvP but yeah warsong gulch by the end, I was having nightmares of that place. After pinging it I don't think I ever went in again, though I continued to enjoy AV and AB.

I couldn't be arsed getting past Knight on the modern rated battlegrounds (though the PVP pony is a nice model).
Did play since day 1 of US beta then (after a LONG 3 month wait) EU beta and EU day 1, never got into PVP till much later on. I don't think I'd have the patience for what it was :p

Had 1 of my greatest gaming moments in Warsong though so can't moan. Had a friend, pretty cute Swedish chick played Holy pally. She's carrying flag, hugging the side, 7/10 enemy sat outside our tunnel. I'm a DK tank. Called on vent for her to go cap while I rocked up, popped everything and went down swinging to distract the pack :D

I properly LOVED rated BG's by the time I called it a day (just before SoO in Panda).

I didn't actually mind the GM grind as I spent all my time in real world pvp. Either silithus, plaguelands or the map with the horde and ally town which were a short walk away from each other (name escapes me) that was fun. AB and AV were relatively fun as well I mean some of the AV battles :o longest I had was one Saturday logging in at around 8am and then having to log off at about 230pm as I was going to miss the Newcastle match and it was still going on :D

But warsong.... That was just utter, utter torture.

AB was decent. The DK tank was engineer (rocket boots + the worgen sprint were too handy) so... also the glider cloak addon. Sat up at lumbermill as team boss watching the rest and jumping down to the middle base with the glider when they got pushed. Fun times with a good team :)

AV back when they had the 4-8 hour hammer/tongs/kitchen sink battles with all the PVE summons going on too were great to be fair :D I was playing a stupid reckoning bomb pally back then though :D

Anyway, stop it. I managed to get out, I have no interest in classic. No. None at all.

I'm tempted to try but pretty certain i will quit quickly as classic needed time to get the most out of, these days time is the one commodity I don't have! :p

Lots of classes had some overpowered stuff back in the day, not sure how they'll approach it, if at all - personally I don't mind it as while those set-ups were devastating under certain conditions they did have their drawbacks. In the end I think it made those WSG and AV games more fun :)

Rogues could Ambush -> Backstab and delete clothies, but they were left often for a while with no energy and were heavy reliant on cooldowns.
Fury/Arms Warriors were wrecking balls and could wipe out groups of people easily, but needed some healing backup as they were as squishy as they were deadly.
Enhancement Shamans could delete anymore but were at the mercy of Windfury RNG and slow delay 2 handers, you'd often just be standing there for ages doing very little.
Double-trinket Mage, PoM Pyro Mage, or/and the infamous "3 minute Mage" who would just delete anyone, downside was always cooldown related for all 3 set-ups
Warlocks had an insane Soul Link in vanilla, Seduce made them kings of 1v1 (possible exception being a Shadow Priest), and they could drop you into negative resistances but they were creatures of habit and having a spanner thrown in the works while you're trying to set yourself up with Seduce of Fear destroyed your rhythm
Hunters were devastating if they got the drop on you, and even if they didn't they could crush melee players due to traps, but they were not tanky and if they got slowed they were often toast
Shadow Priests had ridiculous self healing and crazy dot damage that they could simply just kite you to victory

Paladin pre-nerf on Reckoning was also hilarious :p I can't remember the patch they nerfed it on.
