World of Warcraft: Classic

I face a similar dilemma; played a mage in vanilla and I'm now torn between a mage again (might get boring quick), warlock (might make me miss my mage), rogue (might be too popular) and priest (will it get boring?).

One thing for certain is that I'm definitely rolling alliance and starting in elywnn forest. If only just for nostaliga :D

Like others, I originally played in a top EU guild but between a job, girlfriend, friends and just general life stuff, I won't be able to commit the time required to push for firsts. Definitely keen on casual MC/BWL/AQ/Naxx and PvP progression though.

I actually booted up the private client to Lights Hope last night, going to level each of my chosen classes to 20, I started the warrior last night. It's VERY easy leveling, but very boring thus far.

Been part of the beta for as long as possible, I have both a EU and US WoW account on my B Net account yet haven't gotten into the beta, I wouldn't stress too much about it. It's entirely random.

If you're REALLY eager to play, hope on the Lights Hope vanilla server, just download the 1.12 client (a simple google will find this), sign up on the LH website, reconfigure the realmlist file to point to their servers and then play at your hearts content. Anything within the beta will be wiped out regardless so makes no difference where you play.

I've been doing this and running through my optional classes, rogue is DAMN fun but very gear dependent, I forgot how much so. Hunter is weak until you get a pet and even then it's still not that straight forward. Today I'm going to make a mage and see how that goes.

It seems a huge amount got in then, I also am in.

However, I had a thought... How will they handle WoW tokens??? Will you be able to sell them for gold? If so, it will royally **** up the economy I think.

I've been watching a bit of Asmond because he's the first streamer on twitch. I don't particularly love his personality TBH and not really sure why anyone would want to watch him in particular, other than him being number 1 in WOW. I guess I'm part of the problem, haha.

The guy is a complete idiot, I've watched a couple of his WoW classic highlights. I've no idea how someone so thick has even got a following like his. Streamers are my main concern for vanilla. They will get such a huge advantage from followers handing gear, protecting them, camping spots so the streamer can get rare mobs etc. They should all be dumped on their own server if I had it my way. But hey ho.

Any popular streamer is far from being an idiot.

You realise it's an act that he puts on yes?

I think you guys are a bit naive. Some streamers, sure, but Asmon, Jesus wept the guy is as dim as a unlit match and totally oblivious to how games even work. I stupidly watched one of his 'reaction' videos to Dark Souls. I thought at first it was acting for his 'chat' but no, the guy is a total knob lol.

Watch the above and tell me he's smart...

I first noticed him watching POE streams, most of which are other rubbish and he was clearly the worst, dimmest and dullest.

Thank you!

In other news, what classes are people focusing on and what race? I think I've decided after running a bunch of classes and races on lights hope... Going back to my roots. Going Orc Hunter as I did when vanilla released back in the day. I can't say no to the king, the ZG bat.

Professions, what's everyone going for? I used to focus on enchanting as it wasn't too bad farming on a hunter to get mats and then sell making a nice little profit. But I think this time round, with people knowing the game much better, having the recipes won't be as desirable as others will also be focusing on getting them.

I think I will still go with it but on an alt... Maybe a mage with tailoring and enchanting. Not sure what to pickup for my hunter as I level up, gold is my priority and I don't fancy focusing on playing the AH as I won't have time to keep on top of it.

The official forums are full of man babies screaming about layering and streamers destroying 'their' game.

In reality, it will barely dent the game. It's everyone being hurt they didn't get beta. People are forgetting that the chances of actually running into a streamer with their fans babysitting them will be pretty slim.

I just hope that TSM is allowed in the beta. With enchanting, jewelcrafting and blacksmithing I was literally printing money in LK. You ever used TradeSkillMaster?

The reality is most of the big Wow streamers on NA servers, its not even going to dent the EU servers.

I have both EU and US accounts, but as I'm currently based in the US (I'm from the UK), I'll probably spin up a toon on the US west servers simply to avoid ping issues as well as player count being good to find dungeon groups.

As for TSM, used it extensively with a lot of my own config on retail. Make some very nice gold in legion. I'm hoping to avoid it during the first month for vanilla as I just don't have the time to keep on top of the market going crazy. I won't be hardcore in this, so I'm cool with not being too geared.

My guild (Toast, based on Area 52 US server, one of the biggest guilds in WoW) will be setting up in Vanilla no doubt however I very much doubt I'll be able to keep up with the main teams.

I've been doing the same for the past week or so, the only killer is that the server is so popular it's almost impossible to quest as there's so many people. The hype for Classic is crazy right now. I'd be feeling pretty bad if I was a developer working on BFA.

Yea, the server is VERY crowded, Once you get into the 20's I'm told it gets better. As it's when people start going to different areas to level. I'm going to go to get a few quick and easy quests in Redridge mountains and then head up to Ashenvale, as most people avoid it. But as a hunter, I'll probably just find a good little grinding spot.

Seeing a few streamers complaining about how clunky it feels - yes, spell batching, that thing you all rejoiced at when it was announced it would be put back in.

I heard about this too. I SERIOUSLY hope their complaints are not met with action from Blizzard, adjusting and tweaking how vanilla feels to suit their needs...

Also, I can't find anything but I may start a google sheet to keep track of streamers and servers they play on so it's easy to avoid them.

I wouldn’t mind it not being in, as it was only in there originally due to technical limitations at the time - and I remember what it was like at the time, just clunky laggy gameplay . But keeping things authentic, fair enough.

But then you get the hard core “no changes” streamers - many that never even played vanilla and have just watched a few old PvP videos showing the unintended consequences of spell batching - now complaining about it.

As you say I hope blizzard ignore them, there’s been a few things they’re complaining about that were how it was in vanilla. But it’s different on private servers!?!

Agreed, it's shocking how many of these streamers never even played Vanilla. I'm happy and jealous that they get to experience this from fresh, but at the same time, they shouldn't have any sway over the end game release as a result.

Only time will tell how blizz react to them.

Are you me? I had college 2.5 days a week and still skived to play wow all day. I'm some how now in a decent job now, I lift weights, I own a house, I've had serious relationships. WoW back when I was 18/19 was the best time I've had though. Damn. You should do some exercise if you can though?

I was the same... Yet here I am, married, emigrated to the states, working in one of the biggest tech companies with a wealthy large chunk of stock and income from my job. My wife is a gamer (more hardcore than me) and earns similar. She too was a WoW nerd back in the day. Although GW was more her jam.

We're both active, healthy, regularly work out and have a doggo. Yet... We both know the moment classic drops we'll have to take some time off, we're about to go to Hawaii for 2.5 weeks to an exclusive resort, then Poland for a week 2 weeks later for a family wedding of hers. When we come back, it's time for WoW! Thankfully we both have unlimited holiday lol.

It's odd people complaining about a beta being dead, it's been open a while and there is nothing to do at 40 aside from run the same dungeons.

I'm kinda hoping it will be dead after the first few weeks when it goes live, I'm going to take my sweet time and will be using this as a scapegoat from other games. I just want this to be relaxed mindless fun

Will anyone be playing US east/west coast? I'm really torn, I'm moving back to Europe next September (Amsterdam) into a house I'll be buying so it's very unlikely I'll be leaving the EU again for many years. So do I play on EU servers and suffer bad ping for a while but have a decent toon for when the move happens or just trial it out on the US servers?

Yea, they've never supported regional transfer, found out the hard way when I moved over from the UK... Thought I could continue playing on EU, the ping wasn't too bad, it was just that the server was DEAD when I was playing in the evenings.
