Flying out there on the 26th November. Meant to be starting in Treasure Beach but it's not looking good! However to me Negril and Montago Bay doesn't look that bad. Surprised more trees didn't go down. And the surge doesn't seem bad.
"Rising water levels in rivers, gullies, and swamps could cause crocodiles to move into residential areas," the South East Regional Health Authority said in a statement online. The warning covers residents in several parishes including the capital Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Thomas and St. Catherine.
Shudders imagine having to deal with crocs on top of these high winds and flooding.
Montego getting hit bad sorry to be the barer of bad news but by this guys comments on X its not good
Its Cuba next in Melissa sights it could strengthen but apparently will be Category 4 for Cuba.
As we reported earlier, Melissa is the most powerful hurricane on record to make a direct hit on Jamaica.
But, across the wider Atlantic, Melissa was noteworthy for the following:
Additionally, the Hurricane Hunters - who fly into hurricanes making crucial observations - measured an instantaneous gust of 252mph just above the ocean surface before landfall.
- Tied as the strongest hurricane to make landfall anywhere in the Atlantic basin with a sustained wind speed of 185mph
- With a central pressure of 892mb, Melissa also tied with the Labor Day hurricane in 1935 as most intense hurricane to make landfall
For context, this comes in marginally behind the world record for the highest wind gust ever observed in a tropical cyclone of 253mph during Cyclone Olivia, which struck Western Australia in April 1996.
The dregs of it will hit us next Monday if it keeps its track, nothing to worry about though
Where?Holy crap the weather here is going absolutely insane. Loads of thuder and lightning, all very very frightening.
