Here in South Australia we've just experienced the worst storm in 50 years, with winds reaching ~160kmh.

With more than 20 transmission pylons destroyed, the entire grid collapsed and South Australia was literally powerless for nearly four hours.

The capital city was plunged into darkness, as only a few businesses were equipped with backup generators. One of the generators at the Royal Adelaide Hospital failed, and many frozen IVF eggs were lost.

Two days later, most of the grid has been restored but ~90,000 homes still don't have electricity.

Matthew is headed for FL, GA, and the Carolinas. Max sustained winds of 115Kt with gusts of 140Kt. SC governor is likely to order a coastal evacuation of 1 million people.
 
Yeah my family live near Disney Land and they are battening down today. They have supplies etc for a while, still must be a pretty scary experience to go through.
