Worst hotel room view you had

Not counting those rooms with no windows or just a skylight.

Worst for me was a rock face with orange plastic fencing netting.

On a tour in the USA, a fellow couple had a window which was overlooking inside the hotel in the vending machine and ice machine area each floor had.

Stayed in this room upstairs in a pub booked by a client, this was in July and very hot. The windows didn't open, single bed with really thin matress, no sheets, there was no fan in the room. Decor was from the 70's. It did the job but it was very uncomfortable.

A room on Khao San road in Bangkok, one window which was to an alleyway behind a bunch of restaurants - it was only a single night layover as we arrived late and were flying out early to Phuket but my god, it was horrid for the short time we were in it, no AC, loud noise and music all night long.

I was touring round the southcoast on my motorbike and was staying in cheap places, one of which consisted of a tiny box room, the window faced the staff carpark where the staff would all stand and smoke and the extractor from the kitchen was next to the window as well so the room was very noisy and stank. Luckily i was so knackered from riding all day i still managed to sleep and was up and gone by 5am the next day.

Long time ago I Landed in Koh Samui airport with my mate , we went to an advertisement board to find a cheap hotel, found one that looked ok and they would also pick us up from the airport free of charge, got there and they were very old wooden huts , looked rotten outside , very damp smell inside, no air con , no windows , bed was a paper thin mat on top of some crude wooden frame , overall it was slightly bigger than a dog kennel , I think they wanted £10pn. we Said no so they showed us their concrete chalets , £20pn and in comparison they were like 5*

Hotel in cyprus, more like a block of flats. There was a big balcony which was nice, but no lock on the door to the balcony. We were on the 1st floor but it wouldn't have been to difficult for someone to climb up from outside or climb down or across from an adjacent balcony, luckily there was a decent safe in the room for valuables, but we kept things like passports on our person at all times anyway. There was A/C but it was noisy as hell. There was also the occasional cockroach, although this may be standard in 3star accommodation in that part of the world, I wouldn't know. The management also took every opportunity to push us into buying one of the apartments as a holiday home. Obviously we were never even tempted but it was quite funny because every single taxi driver we had for the whole week mentioned (without us bringing it up) that we should definitely not buy any of the apartments because it's a rather shady business.

Hotels with windows that don't open are a real annoyance of mine, even quite decent hotels in the UK do this, I hate it. The ones that open just a little but are restricted from not opening very far are not as bad because it's usually easy to unscrew the restrictor (always carry a multitool!) and put it back before leaving. Are there any decent hotel chains in the UK that specifically do not do this?

My room in the holiday inn at Heathrow for my covid quarantine interment.
Window unable to be opened, and faced out onto an indoor courtyard. I didn't see sky or plants for 10 days.
If I’m in a city, I don’t mind having an inner courtyard view as it keeps the noise down. As only in the room for sleeping, washing, getting dressed and about 30 mins a day reading Kindle or playing games on phone

This was my worst view. Another building had been built right up against the hotel I was staying in in Hue, Vietnam:

Hilton Garden Inn, Cupertino.

Room was spotlessly clean, bed very comfortable and the staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful.

The problem was that it was the last room available anywhere in Cupertino that week and I soon found out why. I had the lift on one side of the room, the vending and ice machines opposite my room’s door and a housekeeping storeroom on the other side. It was random loud noises throughout the first night.

Coped the rest of the week by having a nightcap or three at the weirdly transplanted 1970’s English estate pub The Duke Of Edinburgh 3 minutes walk away and turning the AC fan up until I couldn’t hear the outside noise as I have no problem sleeping through constant noise.

Nothing exotic, but definitely Holiday Inn in sittingbourne. Room was ok, but view was a beige concrete wall with a huge air vent. Didn't really bother me as I was too ****** to see anything anyway

Premier Inn, Cheadle. Spectacular views of the car park. But I was there on a business trip and the costs were covered by my branch manager, so I wasn't bothered.

You are so lucky that is the worst view you've had :)
I've dreamt of looking over a car park.

Premier Inn's Durham City Centre hotel is much nicer. You can look out over the Walkergate car park, the Freeman's Quay leisure centre, or the HM Passport Office. If you're high enough and you get the right angle, you can probably see the River Wear as well. I had a pleasant stroll in the evening, Durham is a pretty city.
