Worst player 11/12 edition.

The thread is worst player, not worst signing, Mertesacker is hugely better than Djourou, still rubbish, but much much better than Djourou, Caldwell and a bunch of other players.

Funny, Arsenal fans(and other fans) couldn't say enough fantastic things about how he was playing last year(when he was exactly as bad, clumsy, stupid, inept).

I don't think Mertesacker is all that bad really. He needs someone decent at the side of him, but I think he's OK. Vermaelen and Koscielny are the main choices, so Mertesacker I think is very capable cover for those. (Well, he would if Verm hadn't been playing LB half the season because Gibbs has glass legs.)

Mertesacker has been decent, played the league exactly how he should for somebody of his size. Makes countless clearances/interceptions from crosses and passes and has only really been embarrassed on pace about 3 or 4 times all season which isn't bad for a man who runs slower than I walk

This is the "Worst Player" NOT the worst value / signing.

So those imbeciles noting players like Torres, Downing etc are deranged.

It's based surely on performance. SO to that end, De Gea is the winner for me.

THat is just rubbish, Mertesacker frequently fails to intercept crosses, and he's fairly poor at making general interceptions, people passing TO our defenders because said player is crap doesn't make it a great interception. He's slow, his positioning is horrible, he in MULTIPLE games has move away from his player at the key moment when a cross comes in, he's missed countless easy headers because he stands in the wrong position. He's failed to dominate a single defensive or offensive set piece...... yet he's played the league exactly how he should for somebody of his size?

Crouch plays this league exactly how he should for someone that size, and considerably lankier and less strong, slower and less ability on the ball. He cheats, he gets in the right place, he wins countless headers and he's mostly inept at doing much more than that. Mertesacker should dominate 90% of the set pieces he's involved in, I've only ever seen him look lost and incapable at the ONE THING HE WAS BROUGHT IN TO HELP WITH.

Downing hasn't been the worst, if someone put away some of the crosses(not that they are all on target by ANY means) then he wouldn't seem half as bad. However Torres for £50, or £50,000,000 has 37 appearances for club and country this season, and 3 goals. That would be bad for ANY striker, and probably IS the worst striker in the league at the moment.

Park has been pretty gash this season, but I'd put that down to Ferguson massively over estimating what the bloke is capable of.

His part in the team is to be stuck on in the last ten minutes, out wide or the furthest forward in a midfield three, where he can run around and not get in the way.

It isnt that of a starter in a two man mid field, or indeed, starting anywhere on the pitch.

He's been one of the most exciting players in the league for me this season, set Gerrard up for a hatrick the other day when he could have scored himself.

Torres/Carroll both were a waste of money but I wouldn't say the worst players.

For worst player I think it could be a number of QPR players but that's mainly because despite all their signings they still aren't a Premiership outfit.

For Arsenal id say hands down Arshavin, closely followed by Djourou and Walcott to some extent. The funny thing is that Arshavin has gone on loan to Zenit but wants to come back to Arsenal to play :confused:

...id have him back if he puts in some effort when he plays but this season hes been absolutely useless other than a nice cross for Henry a few mths back.

What? Torres,Downing can be listed if they want its peoples view just cause you dont agree big deal, De Gea yeah sure NOT started badly yes but has sorted that out and has turned it around and is starting to show his quality were as people like Downing,Torres,Carroll,Taarbt have been CRAP since they were bought or this season entirely

To be fair to him, we do have an awful lot of rubbish players on stupid wages. But giving Djourou a new contract is beyond the realms of stupidity imho.
