worth upgrading from 8800gtx to 260gtx for 1650x1080?

I don't think so. I'll probably be going to the 4870 soon though. The 4850 is faster than the 8800GTX but not worthy of the upgrade in my opinion. 4870 would be the best for your resolution. The GTX 280 only really does a little bit better in some titles past 1920x1200 resolution with more AA/AF and such but when the majority of users are at 1680x1050 then it means the majority will be buying the 4870 then :p.

Personally I'd just stick to what you have now if everything is cool. If you still have the itch then get a 4870 as buying anything Nvidia would be a waste for you.

^^ In Reply to shocky. The 4870 is the better buy than the GTX 260 (and cheaper).

Nope, there pretty even, they trade blows in reviews, good thing about evenly matched cards is a it's easy to spot the fanboys as they go out of their way to recommend one over the other. ;)

They trade blows but the gtx260 can not beat the 280 in any games which the 4870 can so imo that makes it a little faster than the 260. Then bring in the extra features i.e dx10.1 and the fact that the 4870 is cheaper then for me it has to be the 4870. The 4870 also seems to handle aa better.

I don't even need to reply ;). Oh, wait I do. Fanboy with a 8800GTX and a 7600GT OC in the past as well as the MX420 oh and Ti4400 but hey, what should I know Shocky :o ;). Nice try.

Well when you compare two different GPU's each will always excel in different games, you just have to understand that these cases alone do not represent general performance difference.

I'm sure if there was a faster version of the HD4870 you would see the GTX260 occasionally beating it in certain games where GT200 excels, like Crysis or UT3 for example but that doesn’t mean it's a faster card overall, in reality both are so close it just doesn’t really matter, unless of course you exclusively only play a limited number of games in which case you have to decide based on them.

Funny, I'm using a HD4850 right now and about to install a second. :D

Wow. Shocky!!! You've actually erm, shocked me (bad pun I know). :D

I thought I'd never see you with anything other than Nvdia.

I might prefer ATI as I've done most of my gaming with their cards but I will use either and I love my G80 GTX. I'm still shocked you have ATI though . Never expected that one :D.

Nope, was sent back after about 10 days, kept it for as long I could get away with a full refund. Might do the same with these 4850's as the price drop on the GTX280 is making me consider buying one again. ;)

Ahhh, it's not lasted long has it?. The urge for the green camp too tempting resist? lol. I thought the 4850s in crossfire beat the GTX 280 though? or is that resolution dependant?. Also, would you not have to send back the 4850s and then spend money to get the GTX 280 again?.

Well have also owned a R8500, R9700Pro, R9800Pro, and X1900XTX, only skipped the 2000/3000 series simply because nvidias offering were just better.

This time is a little different though, all the talk of reduced microstuttering and great scaling means I at least have to give crossfire a try.

Well no, if you request an RMA soon enough it's basically no questions asked and it's processed within a few days, you usually get a week to send it back after you start the RMA process, so the only expensive is postage really and a very short wait for your monies back so you can do the same again with another e-tailer. ;)
