It's only a signature. Nobody really cares what spec your system is anyway, I'm sure you could manage to leave a few things off the shopping list to bring it down to three lines :p

Maybe in the members profile?

Just a suggestion.
It's quite handy sometimes that people put it in their signatures, so in techy discussions (after all, it is a tech forum supposedly) you have a quick reference to what hardware they're running.

This is supposed to be a computing forum. How the hell do they expect you to cram your system specs in legible text?

This made me laugh, although I don't think it was intended to be funny.

Yeah true, maybe its just a ploy to get us to buy larger screen TFTS to read them :D

Am I the only one who finds some irony in the fact that for all this talk of a supposed shift to be more hardware/computer based, that these offending >4 line sigs are typically the ones listing system specs?

:p

Edit: It appears not. And I should read threads more carefully :o :)

In the original thread (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17594437) where you told off, Don Rotty said you had too many lines of text and were circumventing the rules.

yet look his sig

Surely R O T T Y vertically is 5 lines?

Just changed mine after realising that they remove them because of too many lines. It was previously seven lines including the normal text at the bottom. It had been like that for a while as well.

Anyway, Its not really a big problem.

It could be that crappy line of text you have at the bottom  What is the point in having that written there? Actually I dont care.

He's making a statement, I don't think it's crappy at all, contraversial? yes. true? yes.

Hmm I can't tell what's wrong with your sig... Look at Minstadave's for a quick example and he's an underboss.

If the Mods can't be bothered to reply to my threads, at least have the balls to email me.

Firstly calm the attitude - seriously.

Onto the main point - a signature can ONLY contain 4 lines of text, in spite of having a picture with (4 lines) + 1 line of text, which is clearly trying to circumvent the rules, like your sig is. A picture + 1 line of text is fine. A picture (containing 4 or more lines) + 1 line is not.

It seems pretty simple to me.

In that case why have only 2 people (not including yourself) have their specs included? :p

" The forum Dons/Admins reserve the right to judge individual signatures, particularly those deemed to contain material of an adult or offensive nature "

Just a shot in the dark , but could your last line of text fall into the category of offensive nature ( i.e Racist ) ?

I , personnally, have no problem with what you have written.

Cheers,

Mark

Serious Q, its all about number of lines but what about text wrap/length?

Surely making sigs to fit a certain number of characters is an alternative?

Or having a class of sig? eg "System Spec" etc etc

Not sure what you meant. What I mean was how are you list your system specs, in readable text? If you crammed it in, it'd be illegible.

I'm all for the trimming of the fat on GD. But had I realised it was to be at our signatures suffering, then I'd had have never opened my trap.

I RTM'd his post the minute he posted. I'm sure he has a valid reason, however...

If it's so simple to one person such as yourself, how come multiple Moderators failed to pick up on this for 2 years?

We are removing those signatures whose intent it purely to circumvent the 4 text line limit. In other words, if you just fill a signature with text and nothing else, because you can't get all the information in without an image, and the total number of lines of text (including any non-image text below) exceeds 4, it will be removed. We can't go around checking everyone's signatures, that will take forever, so some may not have been 'found' yet.

If you want to post exhaustive system specs, how about using a link?

Thats never been a clear rule then, I always thought it was acceptable to have an image with 4+ text lines contained in it. When I was an UB I never saw any cases of these sigs being pulled. Unless this is a new 'expression' of the rules?

In any case, someones going to be busy, as there are plenty of sigs that do this :p

I do believe that they would reserve the right to change the rules with or without notice at their own discretion, so it may have been allowed then, but evidently not anymore. A heads up would have course have been nice!

Basmic its not fair at all, system specs are important, but in this forum, only 10% of the people will actually understand the usefulness of having these specs there.

I doubt you will get a response though.
