I'm not sure what's started this slam the potential rule breakers signatures. But at the end of the day, both of my signatures in the original post are exactly the same size.

I was not trying to circumvent the rules. I was merely trying to compromise.

Still seems odd to me that several people have been pulled up on it in the last week who have been using the signatures for years... :o

Interesting, personally I just think the rule should be "fit what you can in 400x75 pixels under 25kb."

Personally I can't see what the harm is in an image containing all that text, it takes up the same space, filespace, server load and is just as worthless as my sig. :p

Wham! Bam! Thank you Ma'am!

Nothing like a bit, sorry, a lot of controversy on OcUK to liven things up a bit. Certainly makes a change from bespectacle me a such and such, a certain forum owner might say :p

Hi I met a girl........... :p

Think Basmic has a point, doesn't matter what goes in that area providing it doesn't drip over that area, content is suitable providing its not adult etc.

Cramming 5+ lines of text into an image looks stupid anyway tbh :p

I really don't see the big deal. It's quite clear in the FAQ. Maybe the Dons read the FAQ and went "OH **** WHAT HAVE WE DONE! WE FORGOT THE RULES!" :D

As previously said it is the overclockers forum and those chosen to moderate it make decisions based upon guidelines handed down to them.

On this occasion I would side with doohickey and point out that it might have been handled better by posting a thread along the lines of.

Dear all,

It has come to our attention that a number of signatures are circumventing the rules by using a combination of pictures and lines below pictures to breach the 4 line rule.

We would like all members to review their signatures and make amendments as appropriate by one week today.

After this point mods will amend signatures as and where they find them that breach the rules.

Any questions post below.

Regards,

The Mods Team

Is anyone actually bothered about how many lines people have in there sig image? As long as it isn't garish (bright pink/yellow etc) and is legible then fair play. As long as its kept within the 400x75 adn 20Kb limit - tho im not fussed about that either @ 1600x1200 :o

Just saying lol

Yeah, I remember one long gone debate over sigs, and the point was that as long as it's neat and kept the forums tidy and not weighed down, i.e. the point of the 400x75 and <20kb plus one extra line of text, or 4 lines of text, then it's okay.

To me, say, 5 lines of text neatly stuck into an image doesn't look untidy, which as I said I thought were the point of the limitations.

all in your sig and the line below amounted to 5 lines so that would have exceeded the limit of 4 as I see it

Right then. :)

4 lines of text maximum, image or no image.

End of story peepz.

^ Really should go in the FAQ...

On the provision that Rotty practices what he preaches.

But of course :p

Edit: I have a feeling that Dons, UBs, Admins etc have probably reserved the right to remain exempt though... I hate that phrase, 'reserve the right', lol. But then it's their forums, so what can ye do. :)

why the heck do we have limits on how many lines we can have, its a forum, its hardly using bandwith is it? i really dont understand this whole 4 line thing? please explain

i get the drift of how you want sigs to be, but why rules on how many lines we can have what does it effect.

I'm pretty sure a 5 letter word vertically is different to 5 lines of solid text, besides he has forum 'powahs' and you don't.

Let it go :o

Why is it so important to have "It's only racist if a white person attacks a black person." tacked on to each of your posts?

I agree with that to a point.

But there is a saying we use in work regarding health and safety practice

"Do as I say not do as I do"
