Would you be bothered by a UK Porn block?

I actually think restricting it from the younger generation is probably a good idea, any kid with a phone or tablet can easily access really hardcore stuff these days, there is something noble in trying to prolong a childs innocence, its all to easily eroded these days, they have the rest of their lives to explore stuff but once they are more able to process it for what it is. That said, I do think however any attempts will be futile, it'll cost the public purse a fortune no doubt to enforce and will be far to easily circumvented in seconds.

There's a really easy solution to this, don't give them smart phones or tablets to begin with. Kids that sit around all day playing games on their phones/tablets are being exposed to legalised gambling and obscene material almost daily. While we are at it, a ban on social media for under 18s should also be imposed, the damage it has caused to young minds is just bonkers.

Social media is an empty platform, it’s people that fill it with crap, banning it or putting an age cap on it won’t work as people lie about their age, “because everyone at school has it”..
What we need is accountability for posts rather than a blanket anonymity…

I would suggest there are a lot more harmful things online. Perhaps the issue is whether the internet in general is a child friendly environment?

It's funny, loads of people remember finding porn stashes in random places, myself included, but no one ever says they had their secret stash stolen or admits to stashing it in random woods :D

it was left by the Good Porn Fairy of the Forest.

i've honestly lost track now of how many times someone's touted a ban on internet porn, i just ignored them until they sink back into the shadows. someone's just making their mouth go because they want attention for something.

A mate of mine had a red hot Swedish mag when I was around 10-11. Too young to understand what it was for still but giggled at the very very explicit images, this was some pretty heavy stuff for someone who had only seen page 3. He ended up tearing out all the pages and sticking them to the local churches door and walls and sprinkling around the grounds. I tried to stop him.

In answer to the question posted, no not in the least bit.

You say that but it would actually work, if platform were forced to verify ages under penalty of law, and a 13 year old fakes their age and joins up on a social media site, then goes through some mental health issues and people try and pin point the blame. They look and see they were using xyz platform who failed to enforce the age verification. That platform would then be liable to legal action, which should be significant like was mentioned in the article posted, I believe 10% of their revenue.

Companies would soon strengthen the checks and enforcement of it. I do not think more censorship is the way to go though. We already live in a vastly polorised society when people are perpetually offended by anything they don't like.

I was fortunate enough to have satelite TV back in the 90s, accidently stumbled upon canal+ late night as a teen.

or maybe just a return to goold old fashioned parenting where parents actually take responsibilty and interest in their kids rather than thinking that School is just a day care centre to offload them to and expect the teachers to parent them instead ?
