Would you tip game devs?

This was sharewares ethos, it was interesting hearing jeff minter talk about it in his history game, he just gave away full games for free and said pay if you liked it. People did. You cant ask for tips for a full price game though, thats insane, if you want tips, make it a free or really cheap game that would otherwise be more expensive.

If they open the door for tipping it gives them an excuse to not to pay them well and reduce their salary, and all the while, still charge the same for games. It's all about keeping more money in the company's pockets.

Hell No.

Happens all the time in hospitality management roles now. The advert will say £42k per year. It'll turn out that this is based on a 48 hour per week contract, with £8k coming from your "share of projected gratuities" and £5k from bonuses. When you break it down, that means the base pay is 18p an hour over minimum wage.

Here's a tip: Fire the salesmen and accountants who seem to be the decision makers currently. Then hire some actual talent back in to the industry. Scrap the "diversity" box ticking exercises.

If the product is good, the money will follow. Not the other way round. Gamers aren't going to buy trash.

The reason Game Studios are so aggressively looking for money is multi faceted but the same dumb reason.

They are all going large on DEI staffing and hiring in outside woke consultancy firms, A, that crap is expensive and they need you to pay for it and B, DEI hiring is about hiring someone for their identity rather than their competency and ability so the games they pump out are just not good and no one wants to buy them.

Take Forsaken as an example, a Square Enix Published game made by Luminess Productions, the studio who made Final Fantasy VX, among other good titles... Square Enix hirened in an outside consultancy firm named Sweet Baby Inc. A raciest radical leftist woke outfit who has complete control over every facete of the game.

Inevitably Forsaken ended up complete garbage that no one wanted to buy, Luminess Productions is now dead, the studio that made one of the best Final Fantasy games is gone, and all because of current day crazy thing....

This is not an isolated incident, its happening over and over and over again and instead of realising their mistake they just keep plowing on because these studios are now infested with radical idealogouges, they think they can save it with more micro and macro transactions, higher prices for the base game and DLC's, voluntary donations to the studios... wow.

By this logic, surely we should all be requesting tips from our customers.......

Oh yeah we do, it's called profit margins for which we get a salary from.

I refuse to tip waiters and waitresses these days due to the minimum wage and the fact that most places put a service charge on these days. If the service is bad I'll request the charge to be removed.

Its for sure an American thing to subsidise underpaid staff.
