WOW Problem :(

Hey guys.

Not sure if this is even in the right section, but here goes.

Basically, my WOW install seems to have screwed up :( When loaded, usually in the 1st minute or two, my PC will freeze. Can't do anything other than use the reset button to restart.

Have reinstalled the game from a new install off the website (7.5GB download!)

Still does the same thing :(

Everything else in Windows works as intended.

The only thing that has changed is that I replaced my case, HSF, PSU, along with addng a new hard drive.

The only other thing is that i converted my system from IDE to AHCI.

Anyone got any ideas other than reinstalling Windows? Will probably end up there, but it is a right pain to do.

Thanks.

have a look in event viewer and see what the last problem was around the time wow did that, should give a good idea of how to solve it :)

Check you have a big enough PSU (very unlikely but I've seen this happen in the past, especially when adding more power hungry components).

Update to latest drivers and as Langlest said - check event logs.

Also I'd check temps on graphics cards, cpu, case, etc. if you've replaced HSF then it may not be seated correctly causing the system to overheat and crash, again unlikely, but worth checking.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Event viewer doesn't show anything since Windows crashed so suddenly.

PSU is an OCZ 600w for my Q8200 and GTX260, so I don't think it is that.

Using Core Temp for cpu temps and it never went above 55C.

Ran Prime95 and 3dmark06 to stress it and it did ok with those, so I am at a bit of a loss as to why it is only WOW that seems to object?

Are you on wireless? I had a freezing issue with wow and got some homeplugs which fixed it for me. If youre plugged straight into a modem ignore this.

you can also try looking in the errors folder of world of warcraft too, it might give some clue to the cause ...

also, try the wow repair tool ?

Errors folder is empty and the repair tool finds nothing.

It is the strangest thing. Very annoying too.

Thanks for the suggetions so far.

More please :)

(ripped off from somewhere else)try

Start->Run
Type "CMD" in the box to bring up the Command Prompt.
Type "ipconfig /flushdns"

Did you upgrade your drivers? Including motherboard, sound, graphics as a minimum?

If you've made changes from IDE to AHCI did you reinstall Windows (Windows can throw a major strop when you do this - infact HP media normally only installs in IDE mode - but thats a different story!)

If you didn't reinstall I'd do that mainly as you're wasting time troubleshooting this and it's easier to reinstall.

I think you may be right. Looks like a Windows reinstall for me then. :(

The really annoying thing is that my current Windows seems to have no other problems whatsoever except for WOW. Just a shame to delete a perfectly good install for just this one problem.

Although I admit it is a big problem! :)

This is driving me mad!

Reinstalled Windows and it still crashes!

Guess that just leaves hardware faults then. :(

Only thing I have added recently which I think could cause the error is the new PSU. Doubt a new hard drive that the game isn't even installed on would have anything to do with it.

Guess I need to get another PSU to test with?

Yep, ran Memtest all night and it came back with 0 errors.

Not sure what SP is?

And yes, it does sound like it is buggered :(

Question is, how do I unbugger it? :)
