I've only just started playing WOW, before I started playing I'd heard a few stories about how addictive it was but I never really paid much attention to them, I'm only at level 24 at the moment but recently I've started to feel it drawing me in to the point where I know it could (and has slightly) start intruding on other aspects of my life, for example the other night I played from 1am (thats when I finish work) until nearly 2pm, thats a 13 hour stint and I had to be in work at 5pm :o , so obviously I was very tired during work and under performing as a result,

anyways (just checks wow on other pc as hears weird random noise lol), I was just speaking to a freind about this on the phone and he told me his flat mate just lost a very good job because of his addiction to WOW and also told me of about a few other people he knew that ended up in simular curcumstances, he even said he felt guilty intruducing them to the game now because of the effect it's had on thier lives,

any of you guys got any stories to tell of wow's addictiveness ?, what is it that makes this game so addictive ?

Not really true, I played Planetside first... that lasted 3 months, then I tried eve-online that lasted about 3 or 4 months, then i tried lineage 2 - that lasted about a month. I've also tried many other mmorpgs and played them so little there is no point mentioning them. The only mmorpg that has hooked is WoW, I've been playing it since the late beta days :).

With regards to how much you play it, I did once notice that I was letting it control me a little bit too much... so did the girlfriend, so I just really thought about how I can start getting myself to take the game less seriously and relax abit more. I started saying 'You can continue later, you can sell your items on the auction house tomorrow' etc etc... just generally asking myself do I have to do this now (whatever it is im doing in wow), and without thinking just hit alt+f4 :D.

I've now got my girlfriend into it, she hates me now as she doesn't get anything done anymore hah! When she goes to uni i'm going to turn on that parental access for her, so i can limit the time she can go on :P

Daryl.

i'm almost level 58 and though I haven't got addicted to it, i have found it quite enjoyable so far. Being in a nice guild really helps though

WoW wont stick unless you get yourself in a decent guild at lvl 60, otherwise theres nothing to do, but if you DO get in a good guild like I did, say bye to your social life!

get out of wow now before its too late!

Ive become addicted in the last few months... basicly to the detriment of my job and girlfriend. Things came to a head this past week when she said i either stop being a lazy unwashed computer bum or leave.

After much arguing we decided that im allowed 3 nights a week to raid and NO MORE. Hehehehe..... its true that if you dont have a good active raiding guild post level 60 then its not much fun, however if you do then it will suck up all your free time and possibly time that isnt free will be sucked up too!

The above is true. Amongst playing for myself, Im also a guild leader (my guild operates on a council style, rather than the typical GM style) in a guild with over 200 accounts. Serious time sink, because aside from what you do for yourself, theres what you do for others, and then theres the raids...
On the plus side, my guild is in the top 20 on alliance (and perhaps total) on my server, and considering I play on one of the older servers, its not going badly, although having been put in the Battlegroup with some of the most successful realms in the EU, you certainly feel thier equipment being superior in PvP.

Sounds like you were addicted to UO/EQ/DAOC, what is this Cabal?

It's easy to get addicted to many different games if you let it. When I first got wow I had a week off work and I played it like a mad man.

Got bored at level 60 and quit. I'm so tempted to come back and play it when the expansion comes out though.

Although I'm now addicted to playing eve and up playing that every day.

You just have to draw a line sometimes and just turn it off.

Like yesterday I logged onto eve and while all my mates were up the pub I was playing eve. Luckily I saw sense and went outside in the end.

Well I bought the game because a few friends recommended it last March. I played it for about a week and got bored of it so I stopped playing it. So the game sat on my shelf gathering dust for all of about 5 minutes before my brother came in and nabbed it. He's been playing it since, constantly at 10+hrs a day, weekends, basically all of his waking hours. When he is not at home, he's playing in a local game place. It has and still does affect his life at college and at home. I really can understand the frustration parents and family must be having worldwide when someone they know constantly plays this. Blizzard and whoever else released it must be rolling in it with millions of subscribers around the world.

Thankfully I have to be asked by my friends to go on, and unless we have 3/4 of us willing to play at the time we don't bother logging in.

I found the game insanely boring up to level 26/30 then it really started getting interesting, quests that take a few hours and send you around the world, decent PVP.

Easy to see how you can get addicted, but to do that there has to be something missing in your life in my opinion, you should not have enough free time in the first place! OcUK addiction should sort that one out.

I was in a nice guild up until last week where the regulars moved to a hardcore guild with a 1 week initation and 75% attendee to raids, 6/7 a week at 4 hours at a time.
Really did not want that kind of commitment it's a game not a lifestyle change.
So tried playing the game on my own, lasted 1 week, deleted account & character today.

Ive was drawn in by WoW for some 6 months, to the point where I knew I was becoming addicted.

I'd log in before going to work and log on the moment I got home. Kicked it into touch pretty quickly after I realised the addiction was getting a little silly.

After playing for a couple years i FINALLY got a bit bored and thats purely from my guild not progressing quickly enough through the encounters. If you want to quit, you have to really WANT to quit, otherwise you'll just pop back on for 10mins and end up there for another month.

I got really freaked out until I saw you play alliance - my guild is similarly run, and one of the guild leaders is called Alex ;).

Guilds are bad for taking up time, and it's really all about self-moderation. My guild are getting pretty hard-core and some of them are on for hours every night, wanting to raid 6 nights a week. They do all still log off so they're not tired for school/work though.
