How long did it took your phone to update?

My 920 is taking ages... been nearly an hour now. Still spinning cog with a couple of mm on the progress bar...

Edit: Just gone into migrating data. Yay!

It's all very nice having Cortana, but apart from setting reminders, what actual use is it apart from making you look silly talking to a phone????
 
So I get this right to get cortana working.

I assume the update runs, then their the usual small set up?..or does it jsut boot into you normal screen.

Does changing it to the US effect the Market in any way?

Im just trying to work out how to get the regional parts set correctly.

I can see the uses day to day stuff, until in the situation it becomes really handy, I cant see it being amazing jsut sitting there trying to think things up.

Cortana's advantage is the third part developer access.

Once developers start adding functionality to their apps it will be able to do more.

Aye.

For me, it'll be along the lines of hands free use, especially when in car.

"Cortana, play the latest album"
"Cortana, direct me to the nearest petrol station"
"Cortana, text "The Missus" I'll be home late, hang fire on dinner."
"Cortana, check me in Foursquare, Big Ben."
 
Yep car use is most promising. It's win8 I really want Cortana for, rumours are it will be integrated in a future update. Hands free htpc.

Oh and note taking in one note. Don't even need to open one note up, Cortana just saves it there. However the videos I've seen saves it as an audio clip with only the first few words translated to text. Please tell me there's a setting to translate it all to text and not save an audio clip.

Love it so far!! The new swipe keyboard is absolutely superb and much easier for using the phone with one hand... Still getting used to it though!

Tried out the smaller tiles and don't think it's suited to the 1020's screen but again, I'll give it a chance.

Need to enable Cortana which is hopefully simple enough, IE is better, smoother transition between screens, all in all the Windows Phone experience I've been waiting for!

Cheers guys, as i expected :(

Runs fine on my nexus 4 as i installed flash apk seperately but i assume you cannot do stuff like that with windows. Figured was worth asking though :)
 
Do we know when this update will be launched over the networks? It sounds exactly like what I need! Finally I can see what app is causing this ridiculous random battery drain on my 920.
 
After several hours playing, really impressed with 8.1, everything just seems smoother.

Not overly sure about how useful Cortana is other than for quickly setting reminders.

Going to be interesting to see what the battery life is like.
 
Hmmmm Cortana does seem to be pretty good at picking songs to play.

Bit annoyed I have to leave GPS on to make Cortana work. :(
