Got a letter in the post today from TV licensing. They have been hassling me for yonks in regards buying a TV license threatening court blah blah which I have duly ignored.

However I have just bought a TV from a high street shop (using as a monitor, I don't want or ever watch TV).

However today they had a detailed letter saying the xxxxxx (the name of the shop) had informed them that I had purchased a TV. They included a load of details etc.


Bit cheeky isn't it, the shop telling TV licensing such information.


I take it I still can carry on ignoring them?
 
Pretty sure shops are legally required to give them info or at least hold onto the info.

The store I used to work at sold TV's for a short time, and we HAD to take the customers details and forward them to the TV licensing monkeys. If we didn't, and it was found out to be purchased at our shop, we could have been fined a hefty amount.
 
We bought a TV from OcUK a couple of years ago, and we got the same letter.

We already had a licence though, so ignored it.
 
Ermm no its the law simple as that...when you buy a TV the retailers are obliged to tell the TV licensing people that you have bought a TV...if you arent connecting it to a aerial, sky or cable then inform them rather than ignore them.
 
If you're not doing things that need a licence then yes, keep ignoring them. They won't leave you alone but then even if you tell them why you've not got a licence they'll still keep hounding you :p
 
tell them that you are not paying to be brainwashed and that if they harass you, you will sue them.

last house i was in, they kept coming round, they wanted to come in and look around the house, i told them gtfo.

one night a big black guy in a suit, came around with a peice of paper saying he had a warrant to search the house. we don't want tv and just go on pcs and download etc. so he looked serious, i let him in, while he was looking around the house i was telling him how the tv is brainwashing people and how i wouldn't watch it if you paid me. etc

he left quickly, but in hinesight he can't enter your house, he has no authority to act on a warrant. tell him to come back with the police.

hmm, well I'm not paying it. Paid my tax on the TV already, they are not stealing another £142 out of me.

Guess its refuse entry time if they do decide to come round xD.



Though how have the facts changed? I thought you only needed a license if you watched tv? I have the TV but don't watch broadcasts. Can I ask them to remove a tuner or something?
 
The shop have tell them automatically as far as I am aware? Been that way for a while?

TV licensing letters are a complete joke in my eyes.
I don't own a TV anymore and haven't since I moved into the current flat. After getting plenty of threatening letters I decided to tell them to **** off. (Worded politely)

Then got another letter which was basically worded along the lines of. "Ok, you say you don't have a TV, but you're probably a liar, you'll get a visit anyway."
Good luck with that, I'm at work during the days and never answer my door.

Ignore the letters. They are absolute scum, just hoping to scare people into giving them money.
 
recently got one of these letters because I bought a new tv in my name and license is in wifes - shouldn't take a genius to figure that one out but I guess it keeps some retard in a job.

I bought it online, and at no point was a reference made to taking my details to hand to a third party.

Because its 2x the size of most monitors and I got a bargain on it. Stuff looks great on it.
