X-Com 2 - Announced

Well im about 17hrs in playing on vet and loving it,

really thought i had messed it up when the clock went into final countdown but managed to pull back and still have a site to destroy, which will pull it back even more. the thing that nearly lost it for me was not being able to look around the map... the mouse does not move the map as you would think & you need to use (wasd) seems simple but that nearly lost me the game.

think this one is much harder to manage all the stuff and keep the game going, but now have my team weapons/kit looking like its top tier so they can take a beating and deal one out.

Acid grenade is wicked, in fact anything that goes bang is a must!! exo suits are great for the heavy class...for some reason there seems little draw back to using explosives vs the first game.

Well one of my rangers just got tongue grabbed and squeezed by a snake, but instantly killed it due to bladestorm (auto-react with sword when anyone get within range)

now he's stuck in the squeeze position and cant move o.O

How do you add power to the ship? I'm unable to build anything but not seen any options to increase it. Likewise I'm at my limit of resistance comms waiting on research to catch up... Really need to get some better gear for my guys too!

you can build power stations in the main base area that you dig out, few notes it can be upgraded and if you have people working in the area it can add more power..

Also on the build area if you see a power node area that you can dig out, if you build a power station in that area you get bonus power, (bit like the old steam vent) however if you build anything else in that area it uses no power, so if you have a heavy power using system it can be good to place in those slots

I'm downloading the mod to get rid of timers. At the point where I don't care if it messes up my game tbh.

There is the other one which just increases the timer limit, not sure how it effects a campaign underway though....
The free camera rotation seems useful might give that one a go.

Is anyone else finding it really buggy? Just had to abandon my game as i have soldiers with -10 days healing and my scanning was also going into -ve :(

Really? The old game did that all the time!

What difficulty are people playing? Using Iron Man?

I've found it fairly easy so far on Classic (non Iron Man)

I've gone for Commander, finding it a decent challenge. However not using Iron Man, I'd find it a bit too hard without re-loading the odd mission, will keep that for my next playthrough.

Question - are the people not liking it those that played long war mod?

I never did to be honest, and am really enjoying XCOM 2

I'm really enjoying it and never played long war, then again I think I've played less than a lot of people so potentially I could still get bored at some point.

Starting a new campaign is recommended with that mod, or it won't work properly apparently.

It's good. Makes you wonder why it isn't in the game to begin with.

Just installed the timer which increases the number rather than removes it altogether.
I do not like the timer at its defaults, as I feel too rushed, kinda like taking my time. But I wouldn't want no timer.

Not started a new campaign with it and it seems fine. Made sure I was not on a mission already though when I first installed it.

All I can say about this game is.....I love it ! Even with 0 sli and 1 crash thanks to the camera zooming in and getting stuck on a trouper I love this game ! :D

Really, really enjoying this... :D

I'm about to fight my first UFO encounter, wish me luck :p

And as for the turn timers, although I feel like they're just a cheap clutch sometimes for overwatching round after round, they're actually forcing me to change up my play style and make more riskier moves.

That being said though I haven't had a single soldier die on me yet. Maybe I'm just playing really well (I highly doubt that :D), but as long as you're careful and don't make any stupid moves the game's relatively easy (on the default difficulty), and I'm still running mostly default weapons as I've had to take a long pause to develop the shadow-things.

And I'm getting to the point in the game where I have to start juggling multiple objects at once, getting real tense :D I just wish the performance was better, though I have heard that there's a guide to help remove some of the general stutters.

Enjoying it so far, but finding some things damn frustrating.
Just had a mission where I left my entire squad in overwatch in good positions. Fire a shot with my sniper and graze one of the Snake things, it heads towards my crew. They all overwatch and miss.... It then poisons and binds one of my stronger guys, then another guy runs half way across the map with a stun stick and kills one of my guys.

Was a serious wtf moment! No way of countering something like that!

Yeah, I had something similar happen to me this evening on a supply line raid mission. Ambushed a viper and two advent lancers, but every member of my squad missed their overwatch shot ( prior to starting the ambush every soldier had approx. 80%+ chance to hit ). The viper then proceeds to grapple my ranger through a rock wall ( not just one tile thick - I'm talking a hill several tiles thick ! ) and the two advent lancers run half the distance of the map flanking two others in my squad, zapping them and killing them outright.

So, even though I set up a "good" ambush I ended up with over half of my squad neutralised in an instant. Reloaded and tried the mission again, but more or less the same thing kept on happening each time. This mission was ranked as "moderate" difficulty by the way.

Finding the game quite annoying to be honest. A lot of artificial difficulty with my two main gripes the overuse of "timer" missions and enemy pods essentially getting two free moves when ambushed ( usually to run into cover then an attack ).

Playing Commander Ironman, because I'm a sadist and "save scumming" just feels cheap...

The animation glitches, the overwatch key not responding on many occasions, steep system requirements and getting stun-lanced through closed doors () are low points for me so far. However, after some initial misgivings, X-COM 2 is starting to grab me. I do feel it's needs some balancing (for example, stun lancers!) as the timers push you in to going that 1 extra square, which results in a very bad case of OP gang banging.

Desperately trying to stick with it, but I'm not enjoying it really. I'm thinking of re-installing the original and playing Long War tbh because although I have played every XCOM since the first and have 70 hours in the reboot, this one just doesn't feel right.

I'm playing on the 2nd difficulty level and getting whipped. Save scumming seems the only way to succeed; start missing and save immediately, play till you get shafted and then reload, knowing what's coming next.

Example. Had to retrieve a VIP with an evac zone on the third floor roof of a building. Get VIP and three troopers to the top and the game flies in a ship with three Advent Rangers onboard. Then the robot-mech thing half the map away fires rockets at me and wipes everybody out.

I could go on, but even apart from 'timer-gate' meaning that tactics mean nothing and the game just becomes a tank rush, every other surprise event that occurs seems to result in a wipe because it is a true OP surprise. The game feels unfair, because insta-death mechanics always are. In a game where death means death for your characters, I think that balance is wrong.

Also, this game seems to be one of the times that the reviewers have got out of step with the actual players. To see an official XCOM game sitting at 72% mostly positive on Steam when the reviewers and YouTubers nearly all had it at 90%+ suggest there's something interesting going on with this one.

I like the theory that Firaxis got so tight with the XCOM community that they have ended up creating a game that people with 200+ hours in the original will find a challenge, but 'normal' gamers will simply feel is RNG on top of RNG.

That sounds bad. I felt EU hung too much on the RNG. Is this worse?

Right got my tactics spot on now. Gonna ambush these guys... Oh, they can teleport all of a sudden. 3 guys dead before I can do anything.

Tactics!

Teleporting enemies... a bug or intentional? We all know about the teleport bug in EU :p
