X-Com 2 - Announced

26 hours in and I've not even constructed a Psi chamber thing!

I built it late game but you can have two people just sat in the chamber training the skills without going into the field...even when they are training you can still pick them for a mission it just halts the training until the end of the mission, seems a bit to easy...

Must say the enemies are getting desperate.

Had a VIP mission, trying to get to the evac point on the roof of the 3 tier building, and the chasing sectopod crossed the building destroying the only staircase to the first floor.
And there is no access from the ground floor. (aka pipes)

Do I load now the game (I play "ironman") before the battle, or start a new campaign, having spend 30h on this one? hmm

Coming across quite a few silly bugs. Like aliens being able to shoot through closed doors, shots being taken through walls, etc.

Also bugs with the maps themselves, like being able to move through walls, windows not breaking when being shot through. Floors collapsing but characters and bits of rubble left floating in mid air.

I've not had too many bugs... I had an interesting bug where if a door was opened on the lower floor of a building the game lagged massively and one of my soldiers fell through the floor and took damage. No idea how those two instances are linked!

Yeh on the whole though just the usual Xcom display bugs when firing (like through walls or off in a different direction to hit someone). Nothing massive.

The game is great, really enjoying it despite it being pretty tricky, had about ~10 restarts so far (Commander Ironman) but finally ended up breaking through the very-early game and resisting the squad-wipes that came in the previous games (some of which were my fault, others due to not understanding certain mechanics)

Got radio towers in all 3 North America locations... 300+ income... mag weapons just around the corner, fingers crossed!

Have heard a lot of people talking about playing the game in a self-enforced "semi-Ironman" style called "Bronzeman" - you play without Ironman active but do not save-scum during missions. Would be quite cool to turn it into a proper mod (essentially after each mission it would say "Continue / Replay?")...

Or maybe a mod which implements something halfway between Bronze + Ironman - you can retry *only once per mission* so a sort of mulligan; try again if you think you can do better but if you do worse you're stuck with it

I haven't seen much bugs myself. And I do not class as a bug the sectopod going through the building demolishing the only staircase to evac.

And for those who haven't made their mind yet. XCOM2 is far better than it's predecessor.

And visually stunning (all maxed out No AA)

We should see a mod playing first person......

Just reading up on some of the other abilities you can get as you level up. Currently not got anyone past Captain, but some of the next few choices look awesome :) Roll on finishing work....

Just took some serious damage from a advent sectopod. Now half my levelled team are out for ages. Got to do the next couple of weeks with rookies :/

I did not know it was lurking on the last building next to a exit point

Why do you use no AA mate? Looks great maxed with AA at 1440p, fantastic game.

I hate that ^^

Before calling it a night last night I got a mission where I was allowed to take along injured crew, some of them are 2+ weeks from combat fitness. Yet starting the level they're only 3-4 hp down on full?! I'd have expected much worse! The fact half of my squad have 0 will makes me think this is going to be a damn nasty mission when I try playing through it later...

Hmm, question about that screenshot. Can only aliens dodge? Or can XCom dodge too? Dogging was not a part of the first one.

Have Mutons learned a new move?

Was on a guerrilla missions last night & had a Muton down to 1 health.

Had to run in & slash him with my ranger, as all my shots had less than a 40% hit chance.

'No problem' I thought.

Ranger runs in & slashes the Muton, only for it to block / deflect the damage back onto my Ranger, killing him instantly

Anyone else seen this happen?

The Wiki shows this ability for them :

The Muton has an ability called Counterattack where they can dodge a Ranger's melee attack, and counter with a melee attack from their bayonets

 It most certainly was not!

To answer your question though - I think your soldiers can dodge as well, though it is an ability they get later in the game (I'm not that far yet!)

A lot of the alien turn was "hidden activity", so I wouldn't be so sure of that ;) Who knows what those Mutons were getting up to.

I don't think it's been dumbed down at all, it's a logical development from Enemy Within which had the MEC container timers.

Turtling along and going on overwatch every 6 tiles wasn't exactly amazing tactics.

Yep agree with this, if anything it forces you to be more strategic.

I hacked a lamp/tower thing and one of the benefits was increasing the dodge of my soldier.

I've never seen my soldier dodge as such (and get grazed), but I've seen some powerful melee aliens miss at close range so I don't know if the systems are combined.

But Aliens do seem to dodge a fair bit.
