X-Com 2 - Announced

Have Mutons learned a new move?

Was on a guerrilla missions last night & had a Muton down to 1 health.

Had to run in & slash him with my ranger, as all my shots had less than a 40% hit chance.

'No problem' I thought.

Ranger runs in & slashes the Muton, only for it to block / deflect the damage back onto my Ranger, killing him instantly

Anyone else seen this happen?

Yes they can counter melee attacks which is why I like to have a ranger with run & gun I like to see them dodge a shotgun to the face. ;)

As for dodge yes ur soldiers can do that if they have the stat my ranger has a pcs +10 dodge and its saved him a few times now

Can they only dodge with a PCS? That sounds plausable as I've not seen any of my guys dodge in 20+ hours of play.

I tend to give my Ranger mobility PCS (+4)

Mid game the Wraith suit also has dodge with 25 as standard. Throw on the Superior PCS which increases dodge by a further +29 can result in quiet a good dodge stat. I believe dodge leads increased graze attacks rather then full on hits and not totally missing shots all together/

Got a steam controller? Can use that apparently

Or a PS4 controller + Input Mapper.

FWIW I tried this combo using Steam to stream to my Surface Pro 3.
Turns out it doesn't pass on the controller inputs from Input Mapper.

But using Moonlight+GameStream for streaming works perfectly & lets me control Xcom 2 using a PS4 pad.

Whelp just finished the campaign (albeit it only on veteran for now). Good lord that last mission is testing, another couple of turns and I would have been overrun.

Time for a few days break and then see what takes my fancy mod wise as I move up to commander.

The game maxed @2160p uses over 10gb of memory.

I'm only playing on Veteran also but I've not lost a guy over Lt in about 20 missions now,
send in the cannon fodder grunts and dominated enemies first!

It's pretty much either get to X in so many turns before the enemy blows it up
get to X in so many turns to cancel enemy distress call once you attack,
get to X plant explosive and escape before the enemy interceptors arrive
or kill all enemies before they kill the civvies (effectively the same race)

Not every mission, just most of them.

Although that said, I restarted last night on the Rookie level (ashamed to admit it though) and I've had I think one timer in 7 missions so far. I am finding the game more to my liking, at that level to me at least there is the threat of losing team members, but good strategy ensures a clean mission.

Crap, think my game's bugged out. All my strategic map timers keep counting down after zero - -1, -2, -3 days etc, so nothing ever gets completed :(

I'd say 70% have a turn timer.

That's very annoying when you 4 Rookies with starting weapons and armour.

At least in EU/EW bomb disposal missions, you could turtle your Rookies from power node to power node.

In this game, if you don't have a Stealth Ranger/Hacker Specialist, you're boned.

Especially when you have a Codex and 2 Clones teleporting all over the shop. And why does their EMP attack disable ballistic weapons?

Completed with 0 losses, mind only Veteran however :)

IMO the turn timer, once you get used to it is not too bad. I expect however it becomes more harder on Commander and above when it takes more shots / rounds to take down enemies.

Turn timers and procedural level generation seems to go one of two ways for me so far:

1. You spawn so close to the objective that the turn limit is irrelevant.

Or

2. The objective is at the far side of the map and every enemy pod is camped outside waiting for you.

I am actually enjoying being made to play boldly. When it's possible to complete the mission if you don't screw it up. When it's not possible unless you bribe the RNG Gods, it's not fun.
