X-Com 2 - Announced

I think that is just an indicator to the player that your soldier will have line of sight to shoot them, not vice versa.

Works both ways. It's how the general game mechanics work, if you have a shot, the aliens can generally see you and do the same.
There MAY be a couple of extreme fringe cases but very few and far between.

I think in that case you should get the complete mission status but miss out on a bonus of Intel or supplies or perhaps even last unit always drops an item so you would still be inclined to do both objectives.

There's no "secondary" objectives. The objectives are the objectives. They all need completing. The only optional bit is to kill or capture enemy VIP's.

I'm actually not enjoying playing at this stage, which I'm really surprised at. Geared up and managing things nicely, but rather than the challenge ramping up, it's just become hugely annoying.

The avatar who can teleport to your flank and crit you, the archon who forces all your guys to change their cover, the andromedon you have to kill twice, the teleporting and cloning codex, the gatekeeper who just aoe's everyone, the crysallid who can burrow up and attack during your turn. When the only counter to a tactic is better armour and lots of heals, it's just not fun.(

In my Ironman commander run, it was unusual for me to even let the Aliens get a shot off. And if they did, I usually had mimic beacons to draw their fire.

Psi can generally mind control Cryssalids, Archons, Andromedons and even Gatekeepers, which again, tend to draw fire away from you as they are classed as the AI as more of a threat/target because they tend to be already in a flanking position and not in cover.

Same.
Psi domination strongest unit.
Kill everything you can
Anything left mimic beacon behind cover or flash bang depending what's left.

Can also occasionally use haywire protocol.

I feel like Ive totally messed up my build orders as its not really specified whats best or what to build. The game was getting easier but I've made the rooms on my ship for engineers and research but no comms, meaning large portions of the map are locked off without them and that red meter is three quarters full.

I might start again but if I do,whats the most important "rooms" to build?

Defo build resistance comms first so you can attack the factory's and slow the timer on the avatar project then the Awc so you can increase squad size .. By this time you'll likely need power stations

You've still got plenty of time, just get it built asap.
Don't bother attacking black sites, till there's like 1day left in the clock.

Man this game is frustrating me at the moment. Potential spoilers (although keeping it vague anyway)

On a mission where I can only take 3 soldiers, the mission itself I can complete ok but I'm finding it horrendously difficult without taking some notable damage. The problem with this is the next mission is immediately after leaving me without some of my strongest people.

Should I just try and do this first part with 3 less decent people, or am I going into a series of missions where I'm just going to have to accept I'm going to not be able to use the soldiers I'd like to?

Why is killing the Aliens after you've done the objective a problem? There doesn't tend to be many left - Usually a group of three stragglers.
Most of the time it's not a problem, but once or twice I have had my whole squad shot to bits! yet still completed the main objective without activating a powerfull pod, if I'd stayed to fight I would have at least one KIA if not more, so an evac was the best option in that situation (I'm playing ironman mode).
A plus would also be that you could stealth a mission and evac like a hit and run raid, I've stealthed all the way into a blacksite & reached the objective without being seen, but as soon as you active it you get revealed even if nothing has line of sight to that unit.

Oh no, some enemies have attacks you have to counter quickly. Sorry but this one gets a huge rolleyes.

Avatar - CLEARLY a special enemy and an exception. Terminate with EP
Archon - awww, you had to move a bit and shoot it
Andromedon - oh no, you have to kill it again, it's only got a melee attack in it's second stage. Run, use guns
Teleporting/cloning codex - weak, kill it. if it clones, grenade something it's stood near so you clear more enemies.
Gatekeeper - another "terminate with EP" it's not like it oneshots anything
Crysallid - only appears in retaliation missions, you know they're there, plan a bit.

In all cases, by the time you meet these (except crysalid) you should have mag or plasma and can wipe the floor with them. Sniper with serial or ranger with reaper can happily mop up 3+ enemies each, every turn (use grenades to weaken them). Sorry but this sounds like weak tactics issues. You're annoyed cos things shoot back and you don't have an automatic counter to EVERYTHING?:rolleyes:

There really seems to be a hell of a lot of complaining (from various folks here) about... well... gameplay issues. Basically "it's too hard" hidden behind weak critique. E.g the 2 stage enemy - so, what do you do with beserkers? You realise the second stage is hackable? You realise the second stage is melee only? These are some really poor complaints. If it's too hard, knock it down a level, play some mods that handhold or spoon feed a bit more. Save scum a little if you have to. Jumping on a forum to complain that half the enemies are too strong and wreck you is... nuts.

Rookies only, no experience in combat. All training for them in psi lab, if injured they can't train
Tbh only really need one. And give kills to over people.

That's the worst thing you can do, you are much better off taking on the aliens 1 group at a time.
It works pretty well for me most of the time, besides if I approached all missions the same as that the game would become very boring very quickly! I just think that eliminate all remaining enemy units should be an optional objective & not cause mission fail.
