x1900xt PSU requirements?

I hated my x1900xt's cooler! just makes an annoying sound what ever speed its spinning the fan at, wouldn’t be so bad if it could actually cool lol

from what ive seen the vf-900cu can cool an x1900 a little better and do it much quieter than the stock one. was going to go down that route myself, but then decided to go down the h20 route and add a separate loop in my watercooling setup.
now stable at 790mhz on the core

Either the Enermax or the Hiper would run it fine, theres loads of ppl powering them on less than 400w. :)

Dont get the hiper too many of em are starting to fail, mines failing and it hosed my windows boot files

Got an ocz 700watt coming tomorrow

what about the ram on this card? does it run real hot too?

pretty cool running compared to these x1900 cores, the gpu saturates the cooler and ends up putting more heat into the memory chips. I didn’t even run ram sinks on them when I fitted my gpu waterblock. with the ram MVDDC/MVDDQ voltages set at little over 2V I got a slight better overclock on the ram. noticed the stock cooler didn’t even make contact with a few of the middle ram chips. just had a real poor fit.

yea i suspected that the ram would not get that hot, especially since the core gets to around 85c on average and with the stock cooler it would be dumping some of that heat into the ram chips making them hotter than they actually woudl be if they had no contact with the heatsink at all. bit shady that.

yup thats right, they can take the temps though, I forget now what the max thermal limits were for gddr3, was pretty high anyway, but yeah they dont run to hot on there own.

why did ati bother with usinga heatsink that links both the core and the ram together if the core is going to be running a lot more hotter than the ram? bit silly if you ask me, but i dunno.

ahh thats good news.

i found the power consumption chart here:

x1900xtx sucks up 120 watts of power.

i thought i was a shed load more than this?

thats not too bad at stock then for a x1900xt. how much performance can be gained through overclocking on these cards? when mine arrives i won;t bother with overclocking unless i get a really solid psu.

seen the enermax 535w : http://www.enermax.com/english/product_Display1.asp?PrID=27

these sell for around £50 and have a total of 34a on the 12v rails combined. only thing putting me off is the ***** review which said that the psu is over rated and only pulls out around 400w insted of its rated 535w.

10%.

I will do a full X1900+ Conroe rightup soon when I get my C2D to 3.6ghz.

2ndly, your CPU will be a bottleneck, my 2.4ghz X2 was at 1600x1200.

CR.

Edit: the hyper will be fine. Overclocked will only add 40/50W extra, thats onyl when your going mad!

ahh, thats cool.

how much of a limitation will my cpu be? i got a 21inch crt monitor so would love to play all my games at 1600x1200 if the card can handle it. best thing about a crt is that if a new game comes out and is more demanding i can lower the resolution since there is no native rez i don;t suffer from quality loss.

wonder if crysis will run at 1024x768 on the x1900xt??

Crysis will run at 1600x1200 on a X1900XT. Hell when clcoked to over XT-X you can have some AA and AF.

CPU bottleneck will be reasonable, Im at 13.5k 2005 with a stock X1900XT-X.

I'd say you will get between 11.5 and 12.5k at X1900XT-X clocks.

Can't your CPU go anyfurther? 2.9ghz on 1.4V mean you can atleast get to 3 or 3.1...
