Hi

I've seen X3 reunion going for £5, is it worth picking up? I've always been a fan of space combat games and loved the original privateer and elite games.

Has it patched up well as I hear that it was quite buggy on release? How about fan made patches/mods?

I realise that this may have been answered in previous threads but 'x3' is too short for me to search for

With all the current patches, the game plays very well.

It has a bit of a steep learning curve, some would say vertical, but give it a few hours and this is a game you could lose months to.

It's a great game. For a fiver it's a steal. I'm going to warn you, if you're a student/dedicated work person then this game is not good for you. You WILL loose months TRYING to complete this game ONLY to realise the game can't be COMPLETED!

What i'm saying is that the game is soo open ended you can do loads! Once you done one thing, say for example owned a space station, you can then move onto multiple space stations making you millions, which then you can put into your player headquaters to manufacture big, shiny son of a gun ships!

Few words of advice:
- When you start of, if you're going to "cap" a pirate ship, stay away from Nova's, your buster won't be able to handle it. You maybe able to cap a Falcon, repair it, use it as your ship and use the falcon to cap other ships which you can sell/use.
- Start trading early on in the game
- You don't need to play a plot game, there is an option there not to but I strongly advise you to play the plot version as it'll teach you loads
- Sign up to egosoft forums
- Install everything, Bonus Pack, Bala Gi missions, patches etc BEFORE you start the game other wise you'll have a hard time installing it over your current save.

Have a great game.

P.s - Good luck with the Xenon and Kh'aak ;)

This game anything like the old frontier elites? Used to love those! Might try pick this up too.

very much so. It's as good an elite replacement as you can get. The biggest difference is the combat, which is more like a space shoot-'em up rather than the more realistic stuff in elite.

I suppose having played the original X beyond the frontier helped me get into X3. You really need to read the manual though as it's a fairly complex game

The manual is pretty much useless, over at the egosoft forums fans have put together some good guides which make for very helpful reading.

I bought this game when it came out, and it is a close to elite (my elite days were on the BBC model B )as you can get (as posted earlier). You need to put the time in and hours if not days can pass by, but once you get some universe traders under our belt and start earning serious cash things get much better. You don't have to do the missions straight off do them when you like, also read the manual and the official forum has all the info you could ever want.:)

the learning curve is a cliff face, get to the top and you can see into the valley of easy naked women.

the egosoft forum is the best manual you could hope for, very very helpful folks.

Will give it a go I think as it sounds like something I could get in to. What is the best controller setup? Will it work with my 360 pad?

Also, if you're going to buy this game, then i highly highly recommend you use a joystick. It will enhance your enjoyment, and make everything a lot easier.
