X360 or PS3?

they are both brilliant consoles.

i own a ps3 and like the tutch sensitive buttons, the bluray player, the fact that online play is free and that the wireless is built in. So, for me the ps3 was a much better buy than a 360.
If you want a console just for games then get a 360.
the ps3 is also a next gen movie player, now I know there are better ones about but the ps3 plays films at 1080p and the controler is wireless so acts like a remote so i'm happy.

simple answer to this question, have a look at the consoles line up and media capabilities. Pick the one that suits your tastes and needs the most and sod what anyone else says. Who cares about which has better graphics? Its about the games and gameplay.

Anyone who is that serious about graphics should really buy a pc. This is coming from a Ex pc gamer converted to the 360. All consoles out have their weak and strong points, just pick the one YOU like, not everyone else.

my two pence...

Hi i am currently looking at the 360 elite and the ps3 and having always played games on my pc before i am stuggling to make my mind up , the elite also boasts 1080p output with hdmi connector but this is upscaled i think , or is it ?

Its upscaled for most games on 360 and ps3

If you want a console then go for the elite 360, HDMI, 120GB and lots of demos and old retro arcade games on the market place. Lots of good games out already, networking and voip works well. some great upcoming titles over the next few months.

The question being will the PS3 beat the 360 as a gaming machine, maybe it will but I can't see it for at least a year, Until proven go for the 360.

The only reason of having a PS3 now is for blueray, however you can buy a HD player for the 360 for around £80 new if you shop around.

Have your fun now.

I think there is one or two games out now that use true 1080p.
One is virtua tennis.
Same as the ps3 its only got one or two that run at 1080p

Most games are 720p/1080i (Motorstorm / R:Fom / GoW / Bioshock) and are upscaled. The 360 has a dedicated upscaler though so it generally does the job slightly better.

But...

Don't buy a console because for resolution buy if for games and the 360 has arguably the better back catalogue and 07 line up. Things are more evenly tied for 08 though I think with Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Too Human, Alan Wake, Lost Odyssey, exclusive GTA IV chapters, amongst many many other unannounced projects the 360 leads here too.

For starters the only real decent game worth playing on the PS3 is F1CE and the biggest problem there is that Sony don't support Forcefeedback controls. So if you wanted to play F1 with a steering wheel it would be like having an analogue joystick connected up to the thing.
The Piddley little Sixaxis controller is so small they had to give me 2 when they sold the PS3 to me. If you want to play F1 again it's no good unless you are in easy mode with steering assist on. If I had something like that with my Xbox 360 it would have got dumped a year ago. At least the 360's controller is more substantial and has the Joysticks in the right places. In fact I'd go as far to say the PS2 controller is much better that the Sixaxis controller.
I watch HD-DVD on my 360 Elite and Blu-Ray on my PS3. Apart from the the construction of the PS3 there is nothing to support it. The only company that seems to support it is Logitech. and they are only supporting it because the bottom has dropped out of the PC Keyboard market at present.
I have FNR3 on both the 360 and the PS3. I find the 360's version more playable than the PS3. And of course bad control due to the Sixaxis again.
I have a clear preference towards the 360, but I have both.
There are many pro's and cons but at present I'd go for the 360.

Hi , is it right though that the xbox is a bit noisey and runs hot ?

The Xbox360 does run noisy (though less than my PC) and the PS3 runs hotter than the Xbox360.

I've not noticed problems with either really (though if the PS3 is on your left and your room is warm already it gets ridiculous!) because if you sit away from them you can't hear or feel the heat from either.

But in 2 years time, MS will probably be launching the next xbox which really could cause some ripples through the industry.

I've only read up to here in this thread but I agree with this - just as the PS3 is getting in its stride, MS will usurp Sony once again with the launch of the next Xbox. Next-gen optical disc (we should know which technology is the winner by then), every game in 1080p and the PS3 will be old hat.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Awesome game, but bear in mind that it's a remake of an old XBox game.

Awesome.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas
360 version has better online play.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2
360 version has a slight graphical edge.

The Darkness
You can almost cut yourself with the jaggies on the PS3 version.

Stuntman: Ignition
Also on 360.

Heavenly Sword
Rental material. Only 4 hours long.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Came out on PC and 360 over a year ago.
