X4 Foundations

Like it or not, X: Rebirth was reported to be their best selling title.

Shiney pew-pew = money, sadly.

Anyway, I've got high hopes for X4 (loved X3). I rarely pre-order but I'm tempted for this one.

Recommended specs seem pretty high! Can't wait to give this a blast. I've always wanted to get into 4X space stuff. Tried EVE for a while but i just couldnt give it the dedication it needed.

It supports up to 32core cpu like Rebirth.
And back in may on the anniversary of egosoft, they mentioned that the higher core count cpus, will benefit the engine greatly for a more realistic advancing univerce. If your have lower core count, it will cut the universe progress realism.

XR wasn't same as the rest of the X series, but different, hence no numberin. Seems X4 is proper follow up to X3 plus the space station rpg element from Rebirth.

However anyone who plays rebirth with the DLCs and patched, is a great game resembling a bit what came out initially

On paper this should be good, but the Egosoft rep is a hard one to shift. A dynamic universe interspersed with scripted missions with multiple possible outcomes is fine in theory but it needs to be thoroughly play tested and any possible conflicts eliminated. It is very ambitious on Ego's part. The main story also needs to be unbreakable, one of the problems with pre patch/DLC Rebirth was that you couldn't build the URV forge required to progress the game as the only sector to obtain the parts was hostile to you. (Unless you resorted to piracy in the wee little Skunkie thing).

There was much to love in Rebirth - the graphics, music and overall ambience and if that can be combined with the gameplay elements and universe from mainstream X3 etc. it could become my goto game for months to come. However it probably won't be a Day 1 purchase from me, at a minimum I will wait for a consensus of reviews or possibly even the first sale discount on Steam.

Looking forward to this. Have only put serious hours into X2: The Threat way back when but I loved it. I do agree that these games are usually better after a few months, give them some time to patch them up a bit. So many other games to play in the meantime anyway.

Well, silly old me. Just spent ages trying to find my old X: Beyond the Frontier (day one purchase in the large box with a glossy thick manual) only to find it and then realise I have it on Steam. Not only that, but it's useless as I don't have a optical drive in this system. :o:p

Just a shame there won't be a main plot like there was in xbtf or X2 or X3 it's just Gona have multiple game starts with missions based on choice of start you pick. Tho not sure how long the little plots go on for or how many story based missions there will be. Knowing my luck not enough as I only fancy playing story content in the X games. Done all the trading and station building I can be bothered with back in X2.

It's been confirmed that there will be a common player story which leads to your own base and opens up research.

Did you play Rebirth? That is the most plot-based version of the X games, and it is not a bad game any more.

There is a common plot of sorts confirmed yes but a minor one and won't last very long from what's been said. I'm guessing no more than about 5 missions for it max.

Yes I have rebirth but only played up to a escort mission where u help some ships but get ambushed by a fleet shortly after u build Ur first station mission. Didn't like the game and plot was rubbish up to that point.

found this on the forums guess its what you where talking about

"As with X Rebirth, X4 will use two cores pretty heavily for its primary activities (simulation and rendering) and as many other cores as are available for other peripheral tasks (such as path-finding and asset loading). Drivers and APIs used by the game, such as Vulkan, may also be able to make use of more than one core. Overall, the game is likely to work best on a system with at least 4 cores, and the benefits of more than that will probably tail off fairly rapidly."

maybe we will finally get some multicore love that comes close to actually using multiple cores :D

I'm trying so hard not to get mega hyped for this. Got burnt by Rebirth when it first came out though now it's a decent game, but that was once. Every other release has been great (usual Egosoft bugs aside).

C'mon Egosoft, do us proud!

Rebirth got a bit of bad rep, mainly due to bugs at start, but to be fair X games always start buggy, I played over 1000 hours in Rebirth and had stations virtually everywhere etc with trillions of credits and 1000 plus destroyers, looking forward to X4 after the big let down of Fallout 76.

I might preorder the game since what I have seen I like, big issues will be performance on older hardware and how buggy it will be at start.

i was super excited for this, and after the (technically) fine job they did with xrebirth VR i was thinking VR was a shoe in for X4, however it has been confirmed this is not the case. i guess i will just have to cross fingers for X4 VR.

this could be the game to rip the crown from elite dangerous (for the kind of game i like to play)

I just don't get hyped for games anymore. Maybe because I'm older now (mid-30's).

However, this is the only game I've really been excited for in many, many years.

I just hope they learnt from the Rebirth fiasco.

The few videos I've seen look good. Not long now!

Echo that statement, but this is on my wish list... however pending reviews first before I pull the trigger.

Oh I bit the bullet and went for the full shebang collectors edition, because I'll want the DLC anyway.

That's what I call dedicated, still going to hold on for now and see how reviews pan out before dropping the coin on this.

Looks good though, never been able to truly scratch that retro Elite itch I once had!
