Just to reduce temps all round a bit more, I'm obsessed with silent fan profiles! :D

Also, does this platform benefit more from higher ram speed or lower latency? The best I've been able to get so far from my Sammy greens is 2052mhz 8-10-10-24-1t and 2400mhz 11-12-12-31-2t. I haven't had chance to bench them yet but my instinct is saying that 2052mhz cl8 will be faster.

I was hoping you'd make that last comment as I was thinking the same.

It's still possible that I can improve on the 2400mhz timings but I might need to hassle you some more to achieve that! :p

Managed a stable 2400mhz 10-12-12-24-1T-96, pretty pleased with that. Not bad for 4x4gb. :)

Also broke my 10/2pt goals in Cinebench. :)

So after a while of using my 3930k at 4.5 and bench at 4.6. I've come to the conclusion my CPU is rubbish. It requires 1.415v to handle 4.6GHz....
I would lower my PLL voltage to see if I can bring down the vcore, but the Sabertooth X79 doesn't allow lower than 1.8 :( one of the biggest letdowns of this board I think.

With that in mind is there anything else I could try?

With 32gb the issue is compatibility not speed. Not many CPU will get over 2133mhz 32gb stable.

I personally to ensure comp would go with a set of DIMMS on the QVL list for the board.

In X79 terms ASUS tend to be the most compatible boards either the P9X79 range or the ROG boards are great.

How would you rate the 'Gigabyte X79-UP4 Intel X79'. I'll be looking to go with 16gb of Kingston Hyper X @ 2400 as it's dead cheap compared to other manufacturers. Would this be a good move or would the Patriot/Samsung be a better investment?

I had problems with compatibility of that board with the Kingston Beast RAM. I am not sure I can recommend 2400mhz RAM with that board. All the RAM manufacturers you mention make great sticks but my issue is totally MB comp.

Thanks for the response.

I purchased some Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C10 1866MHz Quad Channel Kit in the end. There are some Patriot on the QVL, but not a 32GB set.

I also purchased the Asus Rampage 4 extreme and followed your guide. I have only been tweaking a few hours. So far I have had booted into Win7 and ran 3dmark2011 at 4.7GHz on the cpu at various memory speeds (all at 100 strap) I did manage a benchmark at 2133, but with timings as loose as a clowns sleeve. I am at 4.5GHz (100x45) at the moment with the memory on 9.9.9.24 CR1 - 1866. Not sure what to try next!!
