x870e asrock phantom nova

My Nova arrived before I got out of bed this morning, now have everything I need for my upgrade. I also have the day off work Friday, so hopefully I will be able to spend some time switching out the parts then :).

Oh my lord. Anyone had issues with the blazing m2 socket. Cannot get the heat sink off with this everso convenient quick release.
Your probably grabbing the metal bit which is attached to motherboard (the latch mechanism itself). I was meant to be ez...but it's not. I have different issue. Installed my 3080 with gen 4 riser which I know 100% is gen4 and 16x as ive removed it from my old system, and I'm getting gpu working on 8x....I haven't updated the bios yet, hope that's the case... I know for fact the pcie switching is not the issue for this particular board (that wss the reason I've picked it up)

The clasp on mine is a bit dodgy it seems, found an an unboxing and mine doesn't work that smoothly. Got there in the end. Have you tried just skipping the riser all together to test?

My case has a riser as its a vertical mount. I managed to put it together and boot once on an old ssd and it came up at least, but won't know what's what until I have more time. Will be checking my pcie.

Well it could be the issue that i didn't reinstall the windows, but got H2 update installed.
I've reinstalled all the drivers and everything else - no changes. I've re-seated CPU - no changes. Wiped gpu and riser male part with 99% alcohol - no changes.
Unfortunately i can't install it without the riser as it's all on custom loop, and one of the hoses are on the way, and i really don't want to flush the system.
On my X570 old, because i had 3 nvmes installed the riser cable was working fine 16x with that gpu. It only dropped to 8x when I installed 3rd nvme.
I'm scratching my head now why it might not want to work as 16x. My gpu is 3080, not like it will make a difference going 16x on gen4, but when 5xxx series released it might do.

Wonder if because of how new 9800X3d is and x870e motherboards, there could be some bugs in bios...and it's being newish, there's not much info online about combo

I've this riser - LINKUP - Ultra PCIe 4.0 X16 Riser Cable [x570 RX5700XT Tested] Twin-axial Vertical Mount Gaming PCI Express Gen4 2020 | Universal 90 Degree Socket {20 cm} 3.0 Gen3 Compatible. Got it when it was the only one gen4 riser on the market.

Ok. Problem solved. Issue was with Ryzen Master i had installed on old system (as i've said before i never reinstalled windows from x570 system)
Now all working fine, x16 gen 4! whee haaa.
Nice, good catch too. Just installing a fresh copy of windows now. All checking out so far.

As I upgrade infrequently I aim to get decently specced hardware. I agree that it seems that this drive is double the cost of others but this just seems to be the white launch edition one as the black one is similar in price to all other pcie 5 drives and would be the one I would get.

Fair enough, I'm thinking to put a gen 5 drive there once prices normalise a bit in a few years as a mid cycle upgrade, I did the same with my current build (gen 3 to gen 4 drive) and didn't really notice the difference, but maybe there is some lane stealing thing going on that I'm not aware of.
