Xbox 360 or import PS3?

doesn't have a warranty??? all electronics in the UK sold must come with a stat 12months.. UNLIKE the US where they only gave the 360 90 days, until the whole country realised they were being ripped off, as the 360 is historically so unreliable that 1in4 die within 12 months.. Thankfully for me who's also a 360 owner, Microsoft have now upped the warranty to 12months to match the PS3..
PS3 is out in UK?

The thread starter has to be talking about importing one if he wants one now, so his Warranty will be void.

360 has always been 12 months Warranty.

I say 360. Its cheaper and easier to get games NOW. I WILL buy a PS3, but I don't see why you should worry about importing, being concerned on the warranty, that kind of thing.

Pop in to a local store (or buy from OCUK, whatever makes you happy) grab a decent 360 premium package, and thats you ok and happy.

Grab Gears Of War, Rainbow 6, Lost Planet + whatever you want and you are fine and dandy :)

The best way to make the decision is to look at the games available for each console. The 360 has been out for over a year now, and has quite a large catalogue of games. The PS3 will build up a similar catalogue, but it will take time, so you would currently be limited. If you want to import a console though, you obviously want games now, so look carefully about what is available, since you'll be stuck for a while.
The deciding factor for me would be the console-exclusive games, as there doesn't seem to be much (if any?) difference in gameplay for the cross-platform titles.

You would probably be better off getting a 360 right now and then if you feel like a change in maybe a years time get a PS3 as it will probably take about a year to get a decent catalogue of games and for the price to come down.

JAP PS3's definatley dont play PAL DVD's so there would definately be an issue there.

If you do get a 360 though, just make sure you keep your receipt as they have been pretty unreliable with a lot failing, although I think that may have something to do with people storing them in areas without enough ventilation but thats just a guess so don't flame me on it.

I have said many times that I would own a 360 right now if it was made by anyone other than M$, so if you dont have any grudges against M$ then fill your boots mate ;)

So I'm stupid because I dont agree with a companies ethics or morals? Ok, if that's what you think then fair enough. You carry on buying what you want for the reasons you want and I will do the same ;)

I didn't say you were stupid, but I do think missing out on the current "Hit" Console is a tad silly.
Who cares about ethics or morals, as long as it's a good console they could be forcing people to work at gunpoint for all I care.

MS hatred in this context really confuses me. How can you hate one multi-national with this much passion but heartily promote others?

It's like my mother-in-law. She hates Tesco because of what they're doing to farmers etc. but shops at Asda who are owned by Walmart.

What is exactly your "beef" with MS, i'm curious.

You've mentoned this a few times I'm curious what did M$ do to upset you so much? Take a dump in your cerial.

Do you boycott any other companies?

Edit: On topic

Whilst some people have said "I've played both and I Like the PS3 More". I can say. "I Played both and think the PS3 is overpriced for what you get".

From what I have seen thus far, there is little difference in performance between these consoles. The 360 has a generation of games headstart and the developers are getting to grips with the 360 architecture. Microsoft have taken a lot of time effort and no dubt money to secure a very good portfolio of games.
The console is readily available, which means two things. 1) you can pop inot any store and get one, not wait for shipping.
2) Games publishers are willing to push new games onto the shelf as soon as they are done. From what I understand there is a backlog of Sony games waiting to come out, because the publishers need to ship more copies of the games than there are console owners available to buy them.

I think that the 360 will be the platform of choice for developers, due to the brilliant development tools available for the 360. This will mean that if a cross platform game is developed, chances are it will look and/or perform better on the 360. Thus far this has proven true with several cross platform games.
Additionally due to the ease of development on the 360 we should see far more games produced, both in full retail packages and "mini" arcade games.

Whilst sony have online support it pales in significance to the 360 LIVE system which is fully intergrated in everything you do on the 360. It is seamless and 99% fault free. Sure there is a nominal £40 annual subscription, but that works out at 11p per day. Hardly an extravagent cost for the hours of pleasue you WILL get when online. Not to mention the free downloads. that you do not have to subscribe to get.

IMO disk size for games is a red-herring. Both Sony and Microsoft have stated this will probably be the last generation there is an opitcal drive that comes with the console. So I would not be supprised that with a 60GB hDD on the PS3 (that is furhter upgradable) and the rumoured 120gb HDD for the 306 comming out, that games may be digitally available before the end of this gerneration anyway.

So what I am trying to say is buy a 360, there is something for everyone on this console and IMO if all else was equal the LIVE experience more than tips the scales. I'd be interested to see if Sony have any online co-op games that work as well as GoW.

Oh dear, thedoc46 is at it again...

My advice: Get a 360, for the same reason that people have said above.

...but when it starts to inconvenience you too much, like using a different operating system for instance, you give up.

Face it, the real reason that you do not own an Xbox 360 is not because it's made by MS.

And even if it was, you're inconveniencing yourself more than you're inconveniencing MS.

Just get a 360.

What is making you want to wait for the PS3? Are there features specific to the PS3 that are also worth the extra £££?

There are already a whole host of awesome games out of the 360, and some awesome titles to come (particularly this year), indeed there'll also be some great games for the PS3. Look at either console to see what games interest you the most, and if the extra features on the PS3 are actually useful to you.

Well I definitely wouldn't import a PS3 so I'd go for the Xbox360.

By the time the PS3 is released and readily available with a good catalogue of games, you could have saved enough money to get one by then to go with your Xbox 360.

Thedoc46 you are a legend! I dont know where you get it from but you are a fanboy of the highest order.

Having played both and owned the 360 (now sold so no ties to either)...

There is only one answer but I'll lay it down any way...

You could buy a PS3, for literally double the price if not more, with no warrenty, and a very small catalogue of games, which dosent look like it is getting much better for months and months. A lot of the once exclusive titles will now be multi-format because of the cost of developing games these days.

Or you could buy a 360, with a 12 months warrenty, for half the price or less, with fantastic budle deals at the moment, a massive games catalogue, with some truely great games in there, and a lot of very exciting games on the horizon. It has been said by many unbiased people who would know, that the PS3 has slightly more processing power, but the 360 has more graphical power, however the processing power of the 360 is easier to access. Add that to developers having a massive head start and now being into the 2nd generation of games for the 360, they will be able to extract the power of the 360 better, I do not expect to see a game to justify the PS3 over a 360, certainly not this year, but I dont see it ever happening personally. It is just not a better console, does not have the fantastic live, and has given an 18 month headstart in the UK to the 360.

The facts are there, Personally I would buy a wii, have a great laugh, and get annother 360 when the quieter one comes out with the big Hdd (unless it is ages away) Thats my plan anyway, I really miss my 360 and will have annother.

Personally I'd get the ps3, though as much as i loved import gaming in the hayday, i'd wait for an official UK console.. Since you've got a HD tv you will make good use of the blu-ray player and the discs are region coded, so unless you want to buy import blu-rays i'd wait.. it's only a few weeks away.. BESIDES the excitement of getting one shouldn't be dis-regarded. There's a lot of fun in the wait and anticipation.

If you go out and buy a 360, once you've seen a ps3 you'll be a little disappointed with your 360. It feels a LOT cheaper and well just not as good as the ps3.

Can I just ask you to clarify a few things from this post please:

Are you suggesting that an important part of choosing a console is the waiting and excitement of waiting? I think in the UK this is referred to as "the hype" which is generally considered to be a lot of noise about nothing and ultimately a disappointment hence the phrase "don't believe the hype".

Another reason that you are suggesting is that it has Bluray..... most reviews and reports seem to indicate that most people can not tell the difference between an upscaled DVD at 720p and a HD broadcast at 1080p. Not to mention of course that the 360 can output HDDVD.... so what is special about bluray as a format in terms of how it looks on a UK HDTV which will be unlikely at this time to handle better than 1080i ?

You say the 360 "feels cheaper" and "is just not as good as" the PS3. Can you tell me why? I write a lot of technical test reports for various bodies and international militaries and I don't think I have ever used terms like "the missile feels cheap and simply isn't as good as the competitions". If I did then I assume the relevent bodies would ask for a little more in depth detail......
So could you expand upon the terms "feels cheap" with an explanation and comparison and also the phrase "is not as good as" with a little explanation as to why.

I have not had a go on a PS3 or seen one in the flesh so do not know if you're simply speaking rubbish but I do find the detail more than a little vague.
