Xbox 360 or ps3

Xboxlive is better as far as content and layout etc than psn store but as far as online gaming especially cod games online there isnt a huge difference and the way the games look there isnt much difference even though people like to pick out small differences :p , my decision would be more based if i wanted to pay for xboxlive or not if i wanted a blu-ray drive and if i preferred the ps3 or 360 controller .

Out of curiosity, what makes the 360 online experience better?

Not much anymore, I feel the point of view is quite outdated now. There is party chat, and a few other small features that Live has over PSN. But its hardly night and day as some make it out to be

For me the PS3 controller is a generation behind. It's horrid.

Where as depending on the game I'm playing I can find it preferable.

Which is better as a media player depends where you get your films from...if you dl them then the ps3 has drm (cinavia) which would halt the playback. The xbox can play them fine with a media update but you have to be online for the update.

I would choose by controller preference.

Rather foolish to base an entire decision on a simple peripheral.

As someone who has both, almost all my media use is done on the PS3. The Xbox has some good on-demand TV apps now as well as Last.FM, but in terms of playing back downloaded files or from a network drive/server, the PS3 provides a far smoother, quicker interface.

My main gripe with the Xbox now is that the entire dashboard is designed solely to sell you things, and in doing so they've made it much more difficult to actually get to the content/games that you actually own. Almost every single 'tab' along the top of the screen takes you to adverts and promotions rather than the content you actually own within those particular categories. It's a disgrace really, hopefully Sony don't follow that trend any time soon.

If you use something like PS3 Media Server there isn't any issues.

I agree. I liked the dashboard before the most recent update, but it has become a collection of adverts now. At least with the XMB it is much simpler and faster to navigate.

I like the new interface as it looks neater, but I agree on the advertising part.

I like the way that it looks similar to the Windows Phone interface, but having the adverts plastered everywhere is really annoying. The other day I was trying to download a demo, it took me a good two or three minutes just to find the search function, I'm not Einstein but I'd like to think I'm not a total retard. This just shows how they've made the GUI not very user-friendly in parts, in my opinion. :)
