Xbox 360 & PS3 vs PC graphics

1280x720 sharp on a monitor that is say, 20"+? No. The native res would be 1680x1050 at the minimum.

1280x720 sharp on a TV that is say, 20-50"? Yes.

I have a 42" plasma, it's 'only' 720P but Band of Brothers look freaking insane on Blu-Ray. My PS3 and 360 look sharp too, well of course it can be game dependant!

Yes 720p at 42" will look sharp but 1080p at 42" will look shaper, its as simple as that & I have a Plasma Pioneer KURO PDPLX5090.

Yeah, thats basically what I was trying to say all along. Of course 1080p will look sharper, but 720p will still look sharp as you say.

It will not look sharp if the only thing you were used to before was 1280x1024 @ 17'' or even 1600x1200 @ 17''... 1280x720 on 37'' will look rubbish in comparison.

I went from 17'' 1280x1024 to 24'' 1920x1080, then to 32'' 1080p, and the 32'' simply isn't as sharp as the 24'' was.
When I tried games on 720p, it looked rubbish on my 32'' screen.

1280x768 gaming not for me,thats going back 5 years:eek::eek:

I am on 1024x768 still lol:p. I need a full HD 24" monitor to enjoy my 5850:(.

Edit: If I am correct didn't the hype of HD gaming start with the introduction of PS3? Afterwards it turned out that it was mainly a 720p rendering console instead of full HD lol :D.

...and I thought I was lagging behind! I finally switched from a 19" crt to a 24" TFT a few months ago, wasnt convinced at first but now I'm used to it I really dont think I could ever go back, and I have like an extra 1000 sq miles of desk space if nothing else.

PC is supposedly superior, however the software, is becoming less and less superior. Often worse than its console counterpart. I am like most of you, given this forum, a hardware junkie, but in the last couple of yrs, I am finding it very difficult to justify spending out on new hardware to play a crap, buggy, unfinished, low frame rate port on technically superior hardware. Unfortunately the likes of Activision, EA especially and Codemasters, they've all sold their PC souls to the more profitable console devil..

The PC as a gaming platform is on its way out. The next two yrs will see things getting worse and worse, more buggy ports, sloppier frame rates, then the final nail in the coffin will be the next gen consoles. This will undoubtedly see the start of the end to the PC component market too.

After my last two PC gaming purchases, I think I'm done with it all, after what, 18 odd yrs of upgrading every 12months.

All my gaming purchases will now be console only.

Why?

1.\ Chances are it'll perform better and be less buggy and less overall headache

2.\ I can sell the game once I'm done.

Even though we will see the occasional title being sharper and smoother than its console counterpart, will it really be worth upgrading all that hardware for the very occasional treat? I'd rather put my money elsewhere thank you very much.

Except because of the stagnant consoles, you don't need to upgrade every 12 months. A 3 year old computer is more than powerful enough to run most games at highish settings at a reasonable res's nowadays.

Also, I think you are trying to justify to yourself playing console games. The PC market is massive, ever heard of Steam? 30 million people use it, Valve raked in nearly a billion dollars from it, and they only take 30 ish % of the money. If anything, now a average PC can run most games, PC's are the future of gaming, not the past. Plus, they generally have more innovative titles like Minecraft.

For console you get the same old crap, just a newer version every year.

If you don't change the screen size, just think about how long you can have you current system before thing start to slow down!! :D

Console hardware is pretty old (6+years), and the pace of techology does not stand still.

While the PC hardware is 2 Direct X generations above consoles, the games are still firmly anchored to the lowest denominator.

I think you can blame cross platform development for that, where they try to have a game looking similar for all despite the obvious technology differences.

Ignoring the fact that there's tons of titles on the PC that are the same crap but a newer version from last year, and that there's just as many great innovative titles available on consoles. SMB, Demon's Souls, Heavy Rain, so on. Other than Minecraft, how many games are super innovative PC exclusives?

 There's nothing physically stopping developers implementing multiple versions of DirectX in games, they do it anyway for people still running old machines on XP, it's got nothing to do with consoles specifically. Game's aren't limited to being runnable on only a single version of DX.

Games engines these days are completely scalable. For example the Unreal 3 engine will run on anything from a smart phone up to a DX11 multi card gaming PC. The limitation is the effort that developers are willing to put in nothing else.

Lol
Why is it then that the PS3 always looks worst in side by side comparisons?

It doesn't. Often yes, but these days it's seemingly more common for games to be virtually identical. Several are even swayed in the PS3's favour, so it's not a case of "always" at all.

Oh yes I'm sure I don't know what I'm talking about. If you think 1280x768 is blurry there's definitly something wrong. I play on my PC at that res as my Tv only supports that on Vga (goes up to 1080p through Hdmi which both my Ps3 and 360 are connected through - gasp I own consoles as well as a PC, I guess the Elite will dislike me even more now). The picture is crisp and runs perfect and that's all I need to be able to enjoy my games. Obviously I must have "lower standards" just because I don't see anything wrong with playing at those kind of resolutions on my PC and consoles (which as I'm sure the Elite will have no problem pointing out they are only upscaled to 1080p from lower resolutions).

I waded into battle in this obvouis flamebait thread originally as I couldn't resist pointing out that obviously a powerful rig would look better visually, but there is nothing wrong with playing at console resolutions on your Ps3/360 and implying there is or that they look "crap" or "blurry" is just ridiculous, typical Elistist drivel.

It will be about as blurry as your signature iirc

I remember playing a couple of games on my samsung 42" 1080 tv and it was not as clear as my 22" at 1680x1050

lol what a load of crap. yes playing games at 720p, 25fps is much better than 1600p 60 fps. there is no occasional game being sharper and smoother. every single multiplat game on pc supports higher resolutions and fps.

I wish it was crap. But look all the latest PC releases. Just crappy buggy console ports. It's clear to me the publishers are just saying to the PC dev teams, just get it out the door. Suckers like NZXT30 and me for that matter.. (PREVIOUSLY might I add!!!!) will lap it up.

I'm annoyed that I buy them and can't even sell them.. I'm done with PC upgrading, and now will only be upgrading my machine for the O/S and no longer to keep up with the latest gaming goodies we once use to be treated too.
