xbox dashboard update.

Yeah I know, it took 5 minutes to unfreeze :(

To be honest, i dont see whythey needed to change it, it was fine how it was. I cant see the point of enlarging the friend you have selected in the list, it makes it look like some cheap shopping website, and I also cant see why they didnt just leave demos and live arcade as 2 seperates. To me it seems like a lot of needless fidling to a setup that was already fine.
 
Avi/ Divx files now work in MC but when I go to play them using MC on the 360 my console just freezes. I'm also getting freezing when browsing the dashboard.
 
Any ideas why a lot of my xvid/divx files only play the audio and not the video on the 360? Is it because they aren't the proper format?

And also any ideas why an mp4 file (mkv that was converted) now completely refuses to play, but did perfectly before the update?
 
divx/xvid with ac3 plays via wmp11 no problem (elite+hdmi) and looks identical to my eyes to when played via xbmc and component cables

Change your settings back to PAL-60.
 
It now recognizes and plays about 60% of the video files i have on my 500GB external hard drive, before it played 0% a massive improvement but still not enough to ditch a dedicated HTPC.

Do you think one day it will just play everything ?

Why doesn't it already play everything ?

I know a lot of people who would buy one just to replace HTPC's

I love the theory of it.... unfortunately the reality is nothing but a blank screen whenever I play a video (all videos). Only option is to hit Xbox button/Y to return to dashboard.
Strangely, prior to 'playing' the video, in the list of available videos, it does show an image of the video next to it's title.
 
as I've said before I'm loving the divx support but it's not without problems, I haven't switched off the 360 since I've installed the update as I'm basicly choosing to use the 360 as a media box instead of watching normal TV, problem is though the noise of the box on all the time is starting to do my head in, if the 360 was quiet it would be perfect as a media box, I'm so temped to rip it apart and mod it into a mini atx case.

Thats strange, I can play all my videos fine but I don't get an image/thumbnail of the video next to it's title, is that what your saying your getting ?, does anyone else get a thumbnail image of the video's in thier list.

Strangely true, I was expecting that all along and telling people not to get too hyped up because of that.

The variables for a video to not play are numerous, especially with these two formats alone. I only tried a couple of videos last night and they were flawless. I'll check the rest out properly tonight.

That's right, I get a thumbnail. I can't say if it's there on ALL videos, but it's there on all the ones I've tried to play...
The thumbnail seems to be a random image from the video.

ummmmm, intresting, I've tried allot of divx videos and haven't noticed a thumbnail image on any of mine :(, that would be cool,

anyone else get thumbnail images of thier videos ?.

I get that, then the video wont play. You could try checking your PAL60 setting as Kré suggested?

Yes, thanks, I'll take a look at that. I'm currently using PAL-50 into a CRT TV... (at least until the Pioneer LX508D arrives in the next few hours :D )
 
I've thrown 5 or 6 vids at it so far, from short clips to movies, and they've all worked for me. Still won't be ditching my Mac Mini as my media box though :)
