xbox dashboard update.

Why bother using your 360 to play video files if you have a hdtv? I have just linked mine to the dvi port on the pc and watch everything through VLC? Am i missing something?

My Xbox sits underneath the TV and the PC is on the otherside of the room. Makes more sense having my Xbox connected to the TV rather than the PC as long cables are expense for a start.

Even with TVersity I found it to be a pretty good way of streaming media. Now it supports DivX without having to transcode on the fly it's even better!

I tend to multitask when watching tv/comedy, so i dont like the idea of having my PC being used up as a media player

then again, i also like to have my games console free too (PIP or dual tvs), so i've found XBMC is the solution for me as a standalone player

To anyone having problems with some playing but others you are only getting the sound set your resolution to 640x480 and that should sort the problem, worked for me anyhow, just remember to switch it back :)

That would quickly become a PITA though wouldn't it?

Weird, I can stream some HD stuff but not others :/

Either it don't show, or it has a red circle with a line going through it.. Guess they don't work (even though theyre using same codec or w/e)

can confirm changing my res to 640 480 plays the files i cant play

it is nothing to do with pal 50 as mine never changed still on 60

must just be a glitch in the codec i think at least we know it is capable of playing most files hope they sort it soon as it is annoying

Bah, was hoping it would be the PAL60 thing.

Switching resolution sucks :/

The avi files my Canon A80 natively records in are still not supported so I'm a bit gutted (lots of short family videos). I really am a noob to all this and apparently it's an MJPEG compression. I presume I'm right in thinking these won't be played and it's not something I'm doing/not doing?

PS I'm using Vista Home Premium

I was already at PAL60, the trick of turning the res to 640x480 worked though.

Just hope MS recognise it as a bug but I'm not hopeful. Some of my stuff works and some doesn't, yet they are all encoded the same.

Still doesn't solve the mystery of why it's now refusing to play my .mp4 files though.

EDIT - 640x480 bug is being widely reported for VGA cable users and it seems to happen if you are using a 50Hz/PAL video file.
