**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

It's £60 not £100 and Sony's inferior PS Eye is an optional extra likely to be around £50-60. Gesture control is becoming increasingly more common.
Just because something is more common does not make it better & gesture controls are & always have been a gimmick even on the Wii they were for casual gamers.
I'd rather have the option to opt out of something than have it forced on me at a cost.

Well Sony forced blu ray on us last gen and both are doing it this gen. Both force me to pay for a wireless adaptor I don't need.

In the end to progress technology you need to get it out there, regardless of whether it's needed for every user.

IMO the key difference between steam and the now scrapped xbox model was one of competition. You can buy games from other sources and activate them on steam, mostly far cheaper than what is offered on the steam platform.

There was no indication that it would be possible to buy XBone game codes from other sources, meaning that the choice would be a disc or a purchase from the official store. Where is the incentive to pass the savings onto the customer if there is no real competition?

Some from of DRM is the future, but what microsoft was proposing IMO does not represent it.

The original Xbox forced a hard drive on us, compared to the PS2 and its memory cards. MS took a risk there, that went down well enough. Admittedly it's not as "out there" as motion and voice controls via Kinect, but if companies aren't willing to try something new, the entire gaming market will just stagnate, and that's not something anyone wants to see.

Now, if they could just drop the price down a bit, everyone would be happy. I don't think it would have to be as cheap as PS4, but if they knocked £50 off, it would make a lot of people think twice I think.

It has stagnated now though.

The Xbox One was pushing for innovation - now we've just got the same consoles as last gen but with slightly better graphics.

Thank god Kinect is still around to be able to actually differentiate between the 2 consoles.

Yeah innovation was defiantly the goal, like the innovation of forcing something on people that failed in the last gen or did you not use kinetic on the 360 or perhaps the innovation is that it will work this time!

Do the prices of old games drop on Live then? because what I've heard is that many of the games on there are still the same price as release with very few getting price drops even a year on.

They currently have Black Ops 1 on "offer" for the bargain price of £24.99

1) Kinect works fine...

2) Failed? It was the fastest selling consumer electronics product ever!

I hate when I have to catch up with threads as Im liable to get confused, what do you mean by wireless adaptor?

Agreed Sony forced BD, but at least its benefits were tangible, I guess thats the advantage of something visual, you can see the change right in front of your eyes. And lets be honest BD wasnt there to make the PS3 better, just to allow them to win the format wars, so you cant even say its gamer-centric...
60 euros on Steam right now (can't see the UK store, long story)
LOL that sounds dodgy, though I swear you mentioned it many years ago in the Steam threads. (EDIT: Yes I think I remember, slightly dodgy but very helpful :))

ps3ud0

So true. Anyone that complained about DRM should be ashamed of themselves.

Ugh, don't fall for the sob stories dude, christ almighty.

There's nothing stopping MS from running DD and Disc drm side by side and following a value driven push to DD by giving customers reasons to use it, including the fabled DD sharing which after 2 weeks of talking about and numerous MS PR blogs no-one still fully understood how it worked.

The reason they won't is because they can't upset retail as they need someone to sell their gear for them and providing value means giving stuff away which they never intended to do, they just wanted to control as much profit as physically possible.

It was......

Until everyone figured out it was naff. Wafting your arms around in the living room is sooo 2008.

I'm really starting to hate the word "innovate". Its thrown around constantly. There was nothing innovative about Kinect - It was a ripped idea from Nintendo's Wii. There is nothing innovative about DRM and locking games down. That’s been on the PC platform for god knows how long.

That said PS4 have also brought nothing innovative to the table either.

The most innovative thing about PS4 and XO is that they have different looking boxes and better more ergonomic (apparently) controllers which is hardly an accomplishment.

That enough "innovation's" ?! It means to bring something new and original to the table dammit. Not re-hash ideas already on the market.

it failed as in deliver great games, I mean how many great games can you think off the top of your head that use kinnect to full advantage that arnt sports or dancing games

But unless you're a completely shy dork, Kinect Sports and games like Dance Central are amongst some of the most fun games around for local multiplayer...

Yeah Move is pretty naff also.

yeah I love those games but what happened to the promise of games like Milo they showed of when they orignaly showed off kinnect. they failed to bring to life those sort of games that immersed the player the game were you could talk to your character and stuff, I have kinnect and I have kinnect sports but theres no wow games for kinnect

I predict the next 10 pages to be pointlessly arguing with Pioneer and kin about a feature that is for the better part...gone.

Utterly gone.

Vamoosh.

Wee...

Seriously to backtrack twice is to end up smelling your own ass, if you're fast enough ;).

In fairness, the DRM implementation was innovative and would have brought great benefits to people being able to play games without discs and share between friends/family.

I can't be stuffed discussing it anymore than that as it's just pathetic that shortsighted people have ruined it for others.
