**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

If they want to sell DL to the general public, then they need to either sell games at £40 retail and £30 DL or they should release a game a week earlier as a DL (wouldn't bother me, but I know lots of people go to lengths to have half a chance of getting a game a day early)

Would there not be legal problems from setting an RRP in stores higher than their own digital downloads? It seems like that must be against some sort of competitive regulation.

Like I said, take it with a grain of salt as it's just an anonymous pastebin and for whatever it's worth Arthur Gies of Polygon is saying it's not true. But I do agree that it's hard to believe Microsoft would allow sharing entire games without it being more restrictive than they had talked about so far.

CBOAT has confirmed it on neogaf.

If they did set prices for digital lower than retail, the retail chains would refuse to stock the consoles or games.

Ahaha where's the usual suspects to tell us the family thing is just poor communication and everyone complaining has ruined the way forward. Thought it seemed a bit weird the way major nelson was failing to answer Joe straight up

Yep, it just seems like Microsoft were being purposely vague and misleading. They really were trying hard to screw over the consumers. Luckily the majority of people didn't fall for it

What's poor communication?

It's irrelevant now really, MS won't keep talking about it if the feature is gone.

Certain people saying it was all poor communication and if they were transparent loads morepeople would understand and be happy, evidently not, imagine they had kept this bs going about family sharing.

Its not really irrelevant, ms lying to their consumers or being vague if you want to be kind, I mean god knows how little the 'cloud' is going to improve games. I'll still buy it sadly as it'll be great value for the hours I'll get but Microsoft are nobs

Or the usual suspects read an anonymous blog and decide it must be 100% true.

To be honest I think it will take a bit more than a price cut to win a lot of people back, MS burned a lot of bridges with the DRM issues, perhaps if they announced they were undercutting PS4 on price or they set a lower price point for games, but the majority of 360 gamers I know have lost complete faith in MS most are jumping ship to PS4 a few others are waiting for Steambox or building a PC.

This.

I owned the first xbox, and got a 360 at launch. But I've lost faith in MS now and I'm looking forward to having a change and picking up a PS4 a few months after launch. It's just been a shambles from the start, and the massive backtrack hasn't helped.

I started off my console gaming on the original PlayStation and then had a PS2, so I guess I'm going back to my roots :)

It would seem in 10 years on neogaf cboat has been spot on, seems pretty reliable to me lad

Also go watch major nelson interviewed by angry Joe, can't give a straight answer about family sharing at all

Anyone complaining that the Xbone has been ruined by the DRM policy change is in the minority, So moaning that whiners ruined it is completely wrong, what ruined it was not enough people were willing to swallow the bitter pill MS was trying to push, MS didn't change policy because of people's reactions on the internet they changed it because the pre-orders were way below their expectations & their shareholders got twitchy.
Being vocal about something you feel is wrong is a right in the freeworld, one we should exercise more often not less, but voting with your wallet is the only language big corporations will listen to it seems.

If they did set prices for digital lower than retail, the retail chains would refuse to stock the consoles or games.

MS could turn around and say "look,we were going to block used games but now we're not. So you can still sell used games at ridiculous prices and make loads of money from them. Meanwhile we're going to sell digital games at a cheaper rate so we make some money." Or words to that effect.
I doubt retailers would refuse to stock consoles or games as they'd lose loads of money.

I was definitely jumping ship from Xbox fan to Sony fan this gen if they kept the DRM but now I'm not sure. With the DRM I just figured it was stupid to pay more for a weaker console with more restrictions and a company I didn't quite trust to focus on the games (they've let 360 dwindle too hard and then promoted TV too much while earlier on ignoring gamers concerns about DRM).

I am happy they've changed and they're now back in the running but what I'd have to say is that even so they will need to release a lot more good games (I NEED EXCLUSIVE RPG AND NOT JUST TIMED EXCLUSIVE) before they convince me that I am going to want to shell out extra money. I'm no graphics whore, I can settle for the weaker system if it has more games I want but Xbox 360 had a bad focus on timed exclusives (read as, not exclusive in my mind) so unless they show this console exclusive / timed exclusive BS is backed up with real exclusives then I don't think I want to know. PS4 is far cheaper, my real answer is that MS has put the cost too high for the games they are delivering at the moment (this can obviously change as more games come out though) for me so I'd rather get a PS4 and just keep an eye on the Xbox One so that if it ends up getting lots of good games I'll pick it up anyway. So PS4 for definite, Xbox One as a maybe. I've been an Xbox fan since the original but even so the 360 was a bit disappointing in how many games they wanted you to feel were exclusive but they jumped to PS3 or PC eventually anyway, I'm wary of MS now so not buying there system until they prove they want to give me unique experiences on there system and not just ones I could buy a PS4 or PC to play and get unique experiences on those systems anyway.

I'm failing to see how it's anyones fault but Microsoft's. Surely it's still possible to implement the family sharing for downloadable games? Either their communication is terrible or they're being spiteful turds.

Of course it is, but they realise what they offered was is garbage and going to **** even more people off so better to just ignore it

It was poor communication, and it was that poor communication that led to all the misunderstandings. Assuming that pastebin post is true, the sharing is a lot more restrictive than I would have liked, and it would have reduced it from an amazing feature to a mere afterthought in my eyes. Had it worked the way many of us thought it would, it really would have been exceptional.

You can't blame people for coming to their own conclusions though when there was so little hard conclusive proof coming from MS. People read between the lines, put together thoughts from different articles, and came up with their idea of how it will work. Sometimes it's right, sometimes it's wrong. If the pastebin article is true (not saying it is or isn't), then I am actually glad MS have been forced to change, as the Family sharing would not then be a feature I would use much.

The main thing I'm still annoyed about is still requiring the disk in the drive. It's a minor point but a valid one, as I was really looking forward to being able to play whatever I wanted without having to get up and find the bloody disk first!

PSN+ offers hour long trials off full games, every release is going to be available digitally on XBox, so why would they need family sharing to offer time limited play of a game when they could just offer time limited on every game, just like they do with arcade games?

I hope MS copy PSN+ and offers free time limited trials of every game. It's one really great feature PSN+ has that I hope XBL gets as well.

I wouldn't have trusted the pastebin but cboat from neogaf has leaked a lot and been spot on

Every game is still available digitally so what's the issue?

Edit: you'd be a fool to think they didn't communicate that 'poorly' on purpose

My internet isn't the quickest so I'd rather buy the physical copies and install from there. If I ever get fibre and the prices are competitive, I'll be happy to buy digital.

And yes, MS could well have been holding the info back intentionally, I certainly wouldn't put that past them.
