**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Were the Titanfall gameplay videos being played with a X1 pad? The movement looked very fluid and quick, almost like it was being played with a keyboard and mouse.

It was played with a keyboard as he mentions hitting the space bar and also that the demo was the PC version.

Can't believe there still isn't a realease date, is there any show coming up that MS may use to do it? only one I can think of is PAX but doesn't seem like the right place.

My guess is original release dates were late Nov (and possible early Dec for Sony). Sony then managed to bring the US date forward to mid Nov to get out before XO even if it meant a staggered release to ensure enough units. MS I suspect are now keeping quiet until they work out if they have to stick to last week of Nov or can bring something forward.

At that stage the deal isn't just availability, it's buying advertising and space in retailers, MS would want XO front and centre at Best Buy etc when people walk through the door, if you're out before the other guy you have a better chance of buying that space although you're still competing with everything from iPads to TVs and phones.

On the document, it isn't confirmed, but even if we got the Xbone a week after that (US PS4 release date), I'd be happy.

I'm still sticking with my guess of 5th November. I hope MS announce it at PAX next week. Assuming they won't just randomly announce it at some point, PAX is the last conference where it makes sense for them to announce the date. It won't be TGS as they're not releasing it over there any time soon, so it's either PAX, or just a random announcement when they manage to finalise the dates.

I'm curious how many people will actually be streaming gameplay on the X1? I'm already quite an avid watcher of streams on twitch so I know I'll give it a try if I've got something interesting to show but I can just imagine the amount of crappy streams that will populate twitch come launch

Hopefully we get to know soon, for all of those booking time off :p
Yup, that's why I'd like to know too, though my time off isn't guaranteed any more, as one of the guys I work with is really quite sick (cancer), and he's already going to be off to the next 6-10 weeks after an operation, so there's no guarantee he'll be back in work for the release of the console. Obviously his health is the most important thing (to me as well, as he's a good friend), so fingers crossed he'll be fine :)

I would certainly stream some gameplay of single player stuff (like Dead Rising 3) but I don't think my connection could handle streaming any multiplayer footage as I'm only on a 6MB connection and my upload speed isn't that great.

Still very much on the fence with which console to get on release. I have both pre ordered but can not decide which to get.

All my friends are going for a PS4 but having been a 360 owner since lauch I am not sure i want to switch. Plus I love the look of the controller for the One.

I want to know more on these rumours of the games running worse on the One and if there is any truth in the matter.

Decisions decisions......

Well I'd say, without being able to back this up, that these rumours like most about both consoles are born of fanboys either taking comments made by developers and turning them around or just making stuff up in their heads because "PS4 has better specs and thereoofre must run games better"

I don't think we'll have a sensible answer until a year or two down the line. Both console have their strengths although PS4 on paper has a more powerful GPU. It rather depends what happens with games. If it turns into "Game X runs at 60FPS on Xbox and 65FPS on Ps4 I doubt anyone will ever notice. If publishers add stuff to PS4 version it might be more noticeable although I thin this is more unlikely as it takes time and costs money to do separate assets and support two even more diverse code bases for two different consoles and doesn't generate any additional income for the devs. They're much more likely to be similar although I suppose it could mean the PS4 could apply additional AA etc.

Personaly I tend to think despite what the headline numbers and forums say the difference will be negligible between the two and exclusives are likely to be a much bigger differentiator.

For me I prefer the XO controller and Live community/environment and am intrigued as to what might be achieved with Kinect (head tracking, bio feedback, voice commands etc rather than "wavey hands around"), Smartglass second screen on phones and tablets, cloud compute eventually, media integration etc.

Either way I don't think it will be possible to buy "the wrong console" this time, they will both be great for games, they're both fine consoles if they appear in the form we expect and are both a gabillion times better than the ones we have at the moment :)

Well in fairness, better specs will inevitably equate to better visuals/performance, there's no way to spin that. The real question is how much difference that really makes, both at launch and in the long run as developers become more comfortable with the hardware.

Both of them are going to be a significant step-up from the current gen either way.

This seems to be a common thing people are saying, but I'm not sure there's really much precedent for it. The current gen, for example, has seen the PS3 in many cases suffer the lesser versions of multiplatform games be it in terms of AA, resolution, level of detail, post-processing effects or additional assets. Developers clearly can and do spend the time to get their game working as best they can on a particular platform. Obviously some will put in more effort than others and there are plenty of examples where they don't bother too, but I think it's false to suggest that the extra power - however much or little that may be - is just going to sit there unused because nobody can be bothered to spend the extra time to use it.

It's in everyone's interests that devs make use of everything both consoles offer, otherwise it paints a picture of lazy devs who can't be bothered to optimise their games for the hardware. Nobody wants that.

I'm going to start a rumour that "a friend of a friend who knows a confirmed insiders, sisters, dogs walkers brother has had it confirmed whilst visiting MS that they have upgraded the XO GPU to a full 7970 but are not announcing until launch which is why they have never publicly officially detailed hardware." This is why the XO is so large with lots of air vents and cooling and requires an external "beefy" PSU, the GPU in the current test dev kits was just a place holder whilst they finalised hardware design.

:D
