**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

I thought 12gb of ddr3 went into retail units and the clocks of gpu and cpu are up since then.

I think the CPU has been increased to 1.75GHz, not sure about the GPU, I think it got a slight increase. It still only has 8GB DDR3 though, that was a rumour and since been said by someone as false.

As it's a pc based site what would have better performance for gaming an I5 at 3.4 ghz with a 7770/90 or an I5 at 3.2ghz with a 7850/70?

I don't doubt that at all, I just wonder what the difference will be in real world terms. Slightly reduced resolution on the Xbox One (900p vs 1080p maybe)? A slightly greater draw distance on the PS4? A higher and more stable framerate on the PS4 (though we wouldn't really notice as long as 60FPS is achieved IMO)? Slightly better looking textures or lighting effects? All would be classed as "noticeable", yet all in real world terms would make virtually no difference, if any, to gameplay enjoyment (unless you're a true graphics nut, in which case go and buy a PC :D).

I know we won't know until the games come out, just wondering.

Totally disagree with this, as I brought both consoles this generation as one had fantastic exclusives (PS3) and the other had better running multiplatform games (360). I don't want to be buying both, and more so I don't want to see compromises like frame rate issues, pop in, screen tearing even if it is minor.

The console has to last me 5+ years so it needs to be able to offer the best experience during that period, not just now.

Erm, how can you disagree with me when I haven't actually made a statement? I've questioned just how big the differences between the games will be.

If you want to buy one console, and you want to buy the more powerful console, that's completely your choice. I personally think any gamer who does that is robbing themselves of some of the best games you'll see in the generation, but that's your choice to make.

Both for exclusives. Best performer for multiplats. As this gen.

Lately I've gone from 'XB1 first' to 'undecided' as to which I will buy first. I want Forza 5 but I think I can wait (hell, I've only just bought FM4!). I want to see how the multiplats compare before I decide - particularly Battlefield 4.

You can't really compare them, as the 7850 has a more cores not just a higher frequency and costs quite a bit more. The difference between I5 performance of 3.2 to 3.4 with the same GPU would be practically nothing maybe a 2 fps higher if depending on the game.

Yes several. Somebody made a nice list of developer comments on Neogaf:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=674213
Unless i'm missing something with only a quick look none devs in that link (even the mystery "anonymous" one which for all we know could be a sony employee) with the exception of the need for speed dev said a game actually looks better on PS4 than on X1, they just comment on the relative power based on GPU and DDR5 stuff we already know. In fact one comment from a dev in that link is quite telling...

Misinformation or did I miss something? ;) On first glance it doesn't look like "But several third party devs have already gone on record saying that with their games one version will look noticeably better".

But most of the time devs have a target and they meet this target. If it's a multiplatform game, it's designed with this in mind from the start. So maybe it's not maxing out one console while going 100% on the other. Maybe it's 100% on both, but they take extra time for super-extra optimizations on the weaker hardware to make sure things look the same as on the more powerful platform.
No one is disputing the PS4 is more powerful, the question is what real world difference will we actually see, which is all that's really important.

He (NFS dev) didn't actually say PS4 either. People just assumed that's what he meant when he said “What we’re seeing with the consoles are actually that they are a little bit more powerful than we thought for a really long time – especially one of them, but I’m not going to tell you which one".

Perhaps he meant that the XB1 is more powerful than they originally thought it would be? Who knows!

I think you need to go read through them again as more than just the need for speed dev say there is a noticeable difference between the two (even if they don't say which one is faster, like the NFS devs)

If you're not disputing that the PS4 is more powerful, but want to see both games to prove how much difference it will make, why are we even having these conversations? Maybe we should ban all discussion on power/performance until after both consoles have been released. It seems that will be the only way to convince anybody of anything.

Not at all, i just couldn't see a direct quote from a verified dev saying that their multiplatform game was looking noticeably better on one console than the other. To save us all time as that's your assertion can you just give the direct link / quote here? I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I couldn't see that being said.

People commenting on the potential power of individula bits of hardware is not the same thing, you were very specific.

Yeah sorry about that was having a blonde moment at work and not reading your original post correctly.....

The point I was trying to make is that I'm not bothered which console is more powerful but rather the console that is more future proof. The sad thing this generation is developers have pushed the graphics but at the expense of the framerate/resolution etc. I would prefer and hope that this won't be the case going forward or if it is (I'm sure it will be) that one of the consoles will handle this better in the future, i.e. make multiplatform games for the weaker machine (if there is one) and then the other one won't be as heavily affected...

For instance looking at multiplatform games on both PS3 & 360 you can clearly see that the 360 version is generally a better more refined product. I want the 360 version every time.

Unfortunately I don't think there is any way to know for sure which console is a safer long term bet. The PS4 looks the obvious one as it's the more powerful console, but with Microsoft's magical cloud providing who knows what future benefits, it might not be as clear cut as it would first appear. I honestly think you won't go far wrong with either console as far as power is concerned, so I'd suggest just looking towards what exclusives are the most appealing over the next few months/year and base your decision on that. There's nothing stopping you selling up and changing consoles down the line if you feel you need to.

Just watched a dead rising 3 trailer and considering I didn't really like the first one the trailer for 3 makes me want to give the series another shot
If they can iron out the technical wrinkles (and all reports suggest they are coming along very nicely with that) I think Dead Rising could easily be one of the best launch titles on either system. I'm biased a little as I'm a big DR fan anyway, but it really is looking so much fun.
