**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

"Also, with Kinect, we're looking into features that enhance the controls including peeking and leaning and tracking head movement as well as incorporating voice commands."

If this works properly, and I can lean from side to side whilst sitting down, I'm game.

"Through SmartGlass, Xbox players will be able to view the overhead map during multiplayer matches and take advantage of the second screen"

Whilst someone studies the overhead map on their second screen, they look back at the main screen only to find them self dead on the floor.

Interesting to see DICE planning to support Smartglass for BF4 allowing map and commander mode on the second screen (iOS, Android or Windows, phones, tablets and PC/Laptops without forcing you to buy a Vita ;) ) with potentially head tracking and voice commands via Kinect. :)

head tracking while in helicopter or jet would be next level

does anyone know if forza has confirmed head tracking?

Smartglass has much potential that so far hasn't really been used. Second screen could also be good for selecting loadouts / squad info which is a pain to navigate with the controller.

I think the problem with the current smartglass is that all commands and feedback get sent to a data centre and then relayed to the Xbox and vice versa. So quite slow.

The Xbox 1 smartglass will allow your device to connect to the Xbox 1 directly.

So can you still use (for example) a Sky box with the HDMI pass-through, or is it talking about "proper" TV integration with UK broadcasters?

As expected then. I did wonder if they might have a deal with Sky due to already having a Sky Go app for the 360, but I guess full integration is a different kettle of fish.

As expected indeed. Might be nice to have later on but I'm not too devastated at not getting it now.

Slightly more excited about getting my hands on FM5.

At launch yes, but I never expected it at launch. The interview is refreshingly honest I think, it's nice to see someone admit the difficulties in launching something with so many features. Hopefully it won't be too long before the TV features start reaching over to us in the UK.
The problem/concern I have is a lot of the TV issues they raise that they need to deal with werent unknowns when they decided to go down this route multiple years ago and with that forethought late delivery seem a moot point when by the time they deliver its not where the market will be going/gone to...

At end fo day they put themselves in this position by placing the TV features/abilities so prominently so such under-delivery is befuddling...

ps3ud0

Sorry if its been mentioned already. This is a big thread!!

XboxOne isn't designed to stand vertically. So anyone who wants to does so "at their own risk"

In all honesty I've never been one for a vertical console. It sits on a shelf horizontally. So no issue really.

oh no I'll have to change the av channel to watch tv after I finish playing xbox:rolleyes:

Well yeah, it is easy enough to do that. It's just a little bit of a shame, as most of their push at the unveiling was TV TV TV, they even had the **** taken due to it. Now it turns out it wont even launch with it in the UK?

Yay for Games, etc etc.(The only reason I'm getting one)

It's just a shame I wont get to mess with some of the excellent albeit bonus features that were announced, as it sounds like the UK arent part of their target demograph with regards to half the features the XboxONE offers.

Not just the UK. It's pretty much anybody outside of the US that will miss out on these features. MS is, after all, an American company and nobody loves America more than America :p

Looking forward to my Xbox One now, if they can pull off the movement tracking in BF4, and the smart glass stuff, it's looking like a real upgrade from the 360.

:)

This is why gaming consoles should just remain as gaming consoles. All the new flaff MS are putting into the XO is crazy and a lot of work. As such things are not going to work which is a shame and especially at the beginning misleading. All these new "awesome" features that only work if you speak a certain way if you are in the correct country is frankly bull ****.

I remember getting my SNES after having a NES. It was the best thing ever ! there was no fancy gimmicks no nothing just slightly better graphics and more games to play. I wish company's would just focus on producing a games console and not waste time and money into developing all this other crap thrown on top of it.

Then again I guess I am a small minority in this thought. It would seem as "gaming" has become more mainstream people want their consoles to be a huge media hub. I buy a console for one reason and one reason alone.... to play games. I do not care if I can speak to it, I do not care if it will make a coffee for me, I do not care if it could come alive and do the Hula in front of me. I just want to turn it on put a disc in/load up a game and play.

Despite the fact I'm looking forward to trying out a lot of the new features, I do kinda agree with you. I think if MS had come out and marketed the XB1 as a games console primarily, then no-one would really have cared too much when they said the TV features were initially going to be unavailable in most countries at launch. They would just look at the TV stuff as a bonus feature (which is how I see it personally anyway), so wouldn't care too much when it arrived.

As ps3udo said above though (can't believe I'm agreeing with him :p), it's a fairly poor show when the XB1 was initially shown as a very TV friendly device, then you find out later on down the line that those features will only really work in the US. There may well be very good reasons why they are delayed everywhere else, but if MS want to try and take over the living room, I think they need to make sure the TV features are enabled everywhere else as soon as possible.
