**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

more concerning that they mention that some things that are available on the xbox now wont be available on the new console. I can only presume he's referring to services like netflix and bbc iplayer?

That would be my assumption, but I would also assume that those apps will be available in time. I actually don't know who makes them though - are they made by MS themselves, or do the companies make it and then MS authorise it?

Totally agree about the TV features, should have just left it at that and then bolted all that stuff on after for the US TV market.

Just think of the hassle it would have saved them.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Sorry if its been mentioned already. This is a big thread!!

XboxOne isn't designed to stand vertically. So anyone who wants to does so "at their own risk"

In all honesty I've never been one for a vertical console. It sits on a shelf horizontally. So no issue really.

Same as the 360 then - two of mine (different versions) stood vertically decided to put large scratch rings around some games for no reason so I guess its just a continuation of this for the Xbone

Sort of I suppose. Difference being the 360 could be horizontal or vertical, and was designed to. The issues seen with disks were generally due to knocking or vibrations. XboxONE has been said to not support vertical standing atall, something to do with the slot loading drive.

Obviously its not an issue with slot loading drives in general as PS4\PS3 can do vertical.

Suppose I should add in an actual link. Although I read it on a different site initially. :D

Theres no reason a slot loader cant support those planes - hell its better equipped than a tray loader to do so. Far more the case, that no one would dream to do that with a STB, so why not focus that same ideology subtly on the XO..

Davey_Pitch, pretty sure you normally agree with me ;)

ps3ud0

How can the XB1 be a more balanced system when you cant stand it upright. The PS4 can stand up right so it must be the better balanced one :D

Maybe its just arse covering then so there no bad press if it does mark disks in the vertical

havent read it but looks like a lot of info on the architecture and explaining of it on xb1

I think that's a really interesting read, and certainly raises a few questions about just how big the power difference between the two consoles will be, IF the engineers are correct about how the performance will work out.

MS have done themselves no favours though. Their horrid PR so far regarding the Xbox One means that it's so hard for a lot of people to believe them when they come out with interviews like this. People just see it as damage limitation (as above), or just plain lying about it.

My personal concern is that if they have to explain in so much detail how the power is in the console, and how it works, does that mean it's not straightforward to use either? We all know from experience that some consoles have been harder to get the most out of, and they tend to be the ones that suffer slightly in cross-platform games (like the 360 being ever-so-slightly ahead of the PS3 usually). Even if MS are completely correct in that interview, and the power difference is nowhere near as big as it seems on paper, if the power of the console is difficult to use properly, that power difference will become more noticeable again.

I guess the proof will be in the pudding. Only 2 months to go now, can't wait! :)

I still can't believe the next generation of consoles is only 2 months away :( such a weird feeling!
Agreed. When you look at games coming out like GTA and The Last Of Us, you still think that this generation has a lot to offer. I can only imagine what the next-gen will bring to us :)

It really is nothing short of amazing when you think of what developers like Naughty Dog, Rockstar, and Quantic Dream have achieved with the current-gen hardware. If this is a sample of the quality of games to come, then bring it on I say :D does make me anxious to see what developers will manage when they learn the next consoles in-and-out as they do now.
