**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

That does indeed sound good. What I can imagine happening based on my kinect 1 experience would be (scottish accent did not work well)

Open living room door - say xbox on - say xbox on. - shout XBOX ON - put on american accent - ex bwax oan - go upstairs to get changed, come back down and say "xbox play dead rising 3", say "xbox play dead rising 3", should "XBOX PLAY DEAD RISING 3" press play game button xbox blade with an exasperated sigh. :p
:D

Imagine how it's going to get on with Davey's scouse accent! He'll have to hold up subtitled flash cards to the camera. :D

Lol, cheeky oik! :D

I actually don't have a strong accent at all thankfully, as I actually hate a strong scouse accent. Living in Leeds for 7 years certainly helped with that, as I had to speak slower so they'd understand me!

I was watching "The Ultimate Fighter UK vs USA" and they had a Scouse fighter on it. Whenever he spoke, they put subtitles on the screen for the American audience. That's what prompted me to make that little joke.
I'm sure I've heard that before. I'm not surprised tbh, they'd have to do the same if Jamie Carragher ever commentated on US TV.

Sure that they had to do it with Jamie Carragher on some kind of "inside Liverpool FC" program that was on a few years ago.

The hilarious thing was that they didn't bother doing it for the foreign players speaking in broken English!

I wonder how many people who are up in arms about targeted ads from MS feel about the "Hey we saw you looked at x product, how about Y product" when they browse Amazon.

I don't give two ***** about it to be honest, the 360 does it at the moment with tiles for games I might like because I have played X game.

i think more or less everyone does not have issues with that, that happens now with me on xbox live, well when i had live, and i was ok with it as it made be dwnload some demos from recommendations of the games i played.

its the "kinect data" that i would have a issue with, only thing connect does is see and hear...so its going to recommend stuff of what it sees and hears, like that doesnt sit right with me......even if did get a xbog1 and opted out of the program it would still bother me...guess its a trust thing....this whole xb1 reveal thing has been a train crash from the start and it stil hasnt come to a halt

Though some view it as a trust thing, theres a capitalistic side to this too, we are all aware other companies sell our data and the pay-off is we get their services/products for free - Googles THE example of this.

What strikes me with all the MS hullabaloo (just for you DP ;)) is that there is no real pay-off outside of having more appropriate ads (not having ads full stop doesnt appear to be on the table unless you start manually blocking their ad servers through your router). Why are (opt-in?) XO buyers not being recompensed in a similar method if their data is going to be used for MSs own financial gain?

Its all well and good talking about privacy concerns but as this thread shows there are quite a few people relaxed/indifferent about their own data and how its used, so perhaps its better to discuss this in a method that might make them less indifferent - greed always a good one to default to :p

EDIT: So the question is if you could get say, XBL for free, would you be happy to have Kinect connected 24/7 and the information it stores shared with third-party advertisers? Its a distinct possibility/ability and pretty much one of the most valuable ad spaces going right now that I can think of...

ps3ud0

I understand and agree with that, amazon targeted ads don't bother me. Purely because I'm browsing for stuff I want to buy anyway normally. That and amazon is cheaper on just about everything these days on just about every thing I want to buy online. :)

Where as MS will try to target a game that's £30 in store for another £10 on top to buy online. I think the ads thing only bothers me because I remember the so much faster dashboard that wasn't full of the stuff. Hell I'd pay double for live each year to have a complete ad free version with just a games tab :D

Same. I actually like how Amazon do it and I have bought loads of stuff because of their recommendations related to my previous purchases (mostly music and books). And as dannyjo said I'm more likely to bite from Amazon because the price is always great.

Am I the only person who really doesnt care what information Kinect/MS will or will not collect from me?

I just want to play games so if there are adverts on the dash, i'll just ignore them. If Kinect is collecting my BMI or something.....cant say I care.

As long as my account is secure, MS can fire any ads they want at me, as long as they dont interupt my gaming or make it so I need to cancel any pop up ads before I get to the dashboard.

Nope, me neither. Same as all the other companies that collect data, Google, Apple etc. There are more important things in life to worry about.

Some folk act as though men in black suits will burst through the door at any moment.

Nope, I don't especially care either. I can understand why some people are bothered about it (what you do in your home shouldn't be anyone else's business), but at the same time I have nothing to hide either. If MS feel they can make extra money off a 35 year old playing games then good luck to them!

Ditto, in this day and age a lot of companies do similar things with internet services and honestly it makes a lot of things more convenient (especially with Google for example)

Privacy is one of those things where the natural reaction seems to be outrage when the negatives just don't seem to be there really.
