All the people pre-ordering loads of games - isn't it a bit risky just buying loads of stuff when we don't know if they're any good or not?! Do you pre-order then cancel after reviews or just take a risk and jump in blind? What if they turn out to be crap? Just asking as I am usually very picky about what I pre-order; I've only done it once this year with TLoU and that turned out OK but generally I wait it out. :)
I dont get it either, its not like anyone would buy so many games in one go during the lifetime of the console, launch just makes some go crazy. Reminds me of kids when they go into a sweet shop and want everything :D

That's an odd thing to say, unless aiming for launch most companies won't try and release on the same day as competing products.

Well to me a couple of weeks is the same as the same day, Id never have the time to finish/enjoy a game in that timeframe so to me its mad to order 5+ games in such a small period, kinda makes those games near disposable.

Looking at previous launches you can see mediocre games selling well purely because they were launch titles which just wouldnt later in life. Im sure the same is going to happen this time around with some players duped to buying titles that just werent that good...

Oh right, I didn't think you were referring to that many :p

Now Watch Dogs is delayed I'm just going with free Fifa and Dead Rising to start. Dead Rsising is a gamble but I like what I've seen. I'll see what the reviews are like for Ryse/AC4 etc and make a call then.

Well Im like you 2/3 games seems more than enough for this wave, especially if those are MP titles that you are likely to play til the next iteration.

I just dont think its wise to get caught up in the launch buzz and buy a game because it exists and that the game catalogue is so small right now; its likely to be a game you just wouldnt consider a couple of years down the line - reward the developers who are doing a good job, not the ones who turned up on time :p

Dead Rising and Forza would be the only XO games Id be after myself - both show off its many features and pretty much solid games you dont expect to disappoint

You see for me, this is the issue with the PS4 and the indie title they have, how many will actually be good once the new generation novelty wears off.

The XO launch titles are mainly games you know what to expect from.

Considering some of these are indie titles from well respected developers (like Resogun from Housemarque) or are ones that already anticipated by the PC crowd I think a bit of effort in research would put paid to that. So in reality its not much different than how youd treat AAA games - but then why would it be?

Realistically the XO probably needs indie games more than the PS4, its those games that will most likely try things with Kinect and make it more gamer relevant as they dont have an AAA budget to worry about. AAA games play it safe more often than not - interesting article about this

I think this is exactly the case with Ryse, lots of people are going to be buying it because it's a next gen launch game with nice graphics, but IMO it looks like it's going to be a load of rubbish in terms of gameplay!

Ryse is a difficult one as it's had a bit of a bumpy ride since its first QTE heavy reveal. To be fair though the last couple of times I've seen it it is looking a lot better. Plus the feedback on GAF of the people who have attended the US roadshows has been really positive. We'll have to wait and see on that one but I am hopeful for it.

Agreed with others though on safe bets like BF4 and Forza. DR3 too looks to have gotten some great feedback so far.

Exciting times ahead.

Apparently the QTE's weren't removed, they just made the prompts less obvious, and it still completes combos even if you don't touch the controller, you apparently just get 'XP points' for actually hitting the right button

I can only agree. I remember King Kong on the 360 launch, played it on one of the stands thinking who'd actually pay for this ****?

For me, the vast majority are known quantities. I would buy Forza 5 and Dead Rising 3 without seeing anything about them, simply as I love the franchises. I've loved all the Lego games so Lego Marvel is also a no brainer. I really enjoyed the BF4 beta so I know what I'm getting there as well. The NBA 2K games have also been very good, and I'm a big fan of sports games. NFS: Rivals looks like an evolution of Hot Pursuit, which I really enjoyed. The only real unknown is Ryse, and I'll make a final decision on that on release.

I know it seems a lot of games to buy at once, but I love having a variety of games to pick from. I've been saving for a while so I'm considering it a lovely birthday treat to myself.
