**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

How come Microsoft weren't able to do a built in power brick on the Xbox One, whilst Sony were able to?

I'm not being a fanboy, I'm just curious.

They are a software company first and foremost and they got burned when the red ring fiasco hit so that's why they've ended up with a shall we say conservative design. I

You know the answer to that really. DR3 if released mid cycle in a consoles life would barely raise an eyebrow. It will sell well as king kong did when the 360 came out, not because it will be stunning but there's little else on offer.

As much as I like to buy new things is there really not enough due this quarter on the 360 to make this a must have play? Surely it makes more sense to let others iron the bugs out and see where these consoles sit against each other.

There will then be a ton of second hand DR3 in the trade in bin if you really feel the need :)

When the 360 came out I was ready for a new system and didn't have much in the way of games to play. This time there's plenty, games like AC4 I can't see the game has been built that well for a new console so you may as well play it cheaper on the 360 and wait for a proper optimised version next year, same with COD. :)

So in short, no :D

ps I go through the same dilemma daily, luckily I'm tight and my brain rules my wallet.

I kinda agree about the early DR games They seemed to have a cult following not a massive one. Heck i thought the second game was awful.

This one does look a hell of a lot better mind you and is being released in a zombie revival. Heck my kids are running around acting like zombies. Guess we have The Walking Dead to thank for that.

It's probably not a case of not being able to do it, but merely a decision to not do it. Whether it was a design decision to keep a certain level of airflow in the console, to relieve any heat issues, or simply to make it easier to replace the power supply if it breaks, no-one knows.

Could anyone let me know, as a newbie to modern consoles (skipped the current gen in favour of pc) how the Xbox Live and subscriptions and such work?

Is it going to be as simple as plug in the box, and it runs me through setting up an account and I can just pay something on my card then or is it something that I should get setup before I receive the box? What are the costs of the gold membership?

You can pay for Xbox Live Gold through your console, though it is generally cheaper to buy the codes online and activate it on your console that way. I think you can get a years subscription for around £25-30 if you shop around.

I am getting quite excited now! It's not being released on the best of weekends for me though as I have plans with my kids for most of it.

Get a 12 month card from somewhere like cheapxboxlivecodes.com or here http://www.cdkeys.com/xbox-live, they appear to have 12 months for £26.99.

I don't think my sub runs out until March/April next year so I think I'm fine for that. Just realised though if I get a PS4 I'll need a PS+ sub as well. Oh well, at least that'll get me some good free games for the Vita as well.

We'll all post up pictures for him.
Sounds like a plan to me :D

My weekend is looking awesome for this now. I have the Friday off work to take delivery. Friday night is Pizza Hut takeaway and beer while playing Lego Marvel with the wife. Saturday daytime is more gaming. Saturday evening is a boys night in with friends, playing poker, on the Xbox, and watching the boxing. Sunday is my actual birthday, so more gaming time, and I'm off Monday and Tuesday so I get 9 hours on my own each day while the wife is in work. Awesome :D
