Taking games aside for a moment a few things have really struck me quickly.
Love that X1 controls the TV and sound bar as well switching them on/off and adusting volume through Kinect voice commands (although I did stumble on the add device bit by accident in settings)
Kinect voice control - stunning, I can't believe how quickly using a controller to select apps and options feels clumsy compared to just telling it what to do.
The controller is, for me anyway, a huge step forward over 360, the sticks feel so much smoother and precise and the d pad is, well, a whole generation better.
Kinect recognising me and the wife is good - wifey walked in sat down and said "xobx Skype, not only did it change to her profile but logged in to Skype as her. Cue fun as a battle of "xbox, show my stuff" - no, "xbox show my stuff" commenced
Browser seems genuinely slick as does Skydrive integration for photos etc
Smartglass - Ok so far but, dunno, seems a little to be a solution looking for a problem.
Skype - works well and you can't knock 100mins a month free calls to landlines AND mobiles as well as up to 10 way multi party calls.
Quiet... No seriously, they weren't kidding when they said it was whisper quiet.
Did I mention how good the controller feels to me? Yup, thought so.
Xbox music - worked nicely giving my access to the cloud based copies of my collection synced from my PC - slick.
Snap - not really needed to get to grips with it yet but could be useful I guess, we'll see.
Genuinely love the Kinect stuff, I almost never used it on 360 but I can see why they said it is core integrated into X1, it just works. It's a bit like having a touch screen, once you start using it doing stuff the old way just seems clumsy.
So far V happy with the experience, was certainly the right choice for me as I want more than just pure gaming (I have a decent gaming PC as well). Now to get some time in with some games. All in all, very happy and surprisingly impressed. After all the hype and discussions I was half prepared to be a little disappointed, so far so really nice bit of kit and using it, it seems to make sense where MS are going with the all up games, media and apps for the living room thing.
