**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

It's annoying that it has to be connected. I wouldn't mind it for the Tv in the living room but it's never going to get used in my xbox in the office. I have no use at all for video chat/ motion games why force the add on?
I suspect it has to be there all the time to allow for a consistant environment for developers to code against. It helps to know exactly which resources are always available.

I don't see it as a bad thing, if you don't want to just don't use it /shrug. PCs, laptops, tablets and phones have had microphone and camera built in for years and no one worries about that.

There's a lot of internet angst going on, mostly about things that are inaccurate at best driven in part by websites and blogs posting ridiculous speculation as a way of driving traffic and spreading the name of their site. You only have to look at this thread to see how many sites are getting links and rubbing their hands at the Ad rev.

Then of course there's the die hard anti MS and PS advocates trolling the thread in the name of "discussion". It's just one of those things that seems to happen all the time in the console section, much like the AMD vs Nvidia thing in graphics cards. It's all a bit odd and I really don't get why idiots want a perfectly good bit of technology to fail so they can crow that their chosen bit of tech is the best. Coming soon - Washing Machine Wars, Hotpoint vs Zanussi smack talk... Seriously, some people need to get out more..

Shame really, there's a lot of very knowledgeable people and posts in threads like this, it just ends up getting swamped by raging numpties shouting "Xbone.. hur.. hur.." Playstation Pwns M$ h4rD!! lolzOMFGz InternetZftw!

Sigh

The jury is out on Xbox One for me so far, it'll be interesting to see what comes to light over the next few weeks in terms of facts rather than speculation dressed up as "exclusive news". MS have tried to do something other than just up the power and then release all the same games again with a graphics upgrade which for me is a good thing. Kinect, Cloud compute and some of the other things they are doing move the format forward which is useful. How well it all works we probably won't know for a couple of years but at least they're trying, much like Sony did with BluRay on PS3.

I'm sure Sony have some interesting "stuff" lined up for PS4 which is why they've released very little about the console itself yet beyond the basics. All good stuff and good competition bodes well of the next few years.

Think Ive already caught it, I find it hard to read the lettering on that Forza 5 XO box without seeing 'XBONE' - guess its that whole thing of just needing to see the start and end of a word and the brain interprets the word at hand, the space between XBOX and ONE is just too small IMO

Whatever happens I think 'Xbones' would be a great name for their virtual currency...

ps3ud0

I surprised no-one in their marketing department picked it up as a possible name that may stick.

The machine is now and always will be to me a X-bone, its stuck already I can't shift it.

Yes everything MS announced themselves was amazing and those who think otherwise are "too stupid" to have a discussion about how awesome it was.

Never - X bone means this :

The S2000 was launched in mid 1999 and represented an uncompromising two seater sports car. The drive is to the rear wheels like a proper sports car and the stiff X bone chassis was bespoke

Good post.

I've been on this forum a while now and seen the release of a few console generations, and It's always the same story.

I was disappointed with the Kinect games on the 360, and although it was good, I don't think the technology was quite there yet to make it work as well as I'd imagined. But to all you people crying about how you don't want these advances, I say a big **** YOU!

I've been playing games the same way now for nearly 30 years and nothing has changed, I want more from my games besides graphics and I'm all up for companies moving things forward.

That's not what I said, in fact I specifically said the jury is out of Xbox one for me and once you get past the numpty fanboys there's a lot of knowledgeable people posting good stuff in this thread. Still, if the cap fits (and if you can't even read my post it seems it does) and all that...

See that's what I like, The start of a new gen. I find it gets stale the last few years, I know the games become more refined etc but I just seem to get bored and jump to PC. Happened with the ps1,ps2 and ps3 gens. I'm hoping both sides, no scrap that I'm hoping all three Sony,MS and Nintendo come at us with some amazing stuff at E3 I want an excuse to buy all three systems. Even If I can't afford them all at once.

Agreed. I see it as advancement too. From what I have read so far about Kinect 2.0 it could completely transform the way we play games. Just because we like what we already know doesn't mean that what's to come will not be better. Of course it could go the other way but personally I am quite optimistic.

Yes! You can tell your Call of Duty dog to "Sit!" "Fetch!" and "Lie Down!" :D

Seriously though, I like to play games with the radio on in the background. Is that Kinect sensor going to pick up that sound or is it clever enough to just transmit my voice?

I can see wydro buying a second TV to wrack up those TV achievements. His electricity bill is about to treble!

I can see the argument for everyone having one so they have a standard platform. In my office/study/gameroom type place where I game 99.9% of the time I have no where for it to point at me as the current kinect works. I wouldn't care if it was built into the console. Yet I'm going to be forced to have that ugly pile of **** infront of my monitor at a max 2 feet from my face, for no reason what so ever.

I wonder if the sensor will even work or cause me issues being that close? I guess time will tell.

Hmm, I cant see you being required to have it connected to be honest. I know its been said it does have to be, but I'll remain sceptical till I see it.

I mean what if the Kinect breaks? Does that mean the whole console isn't useable? Doesnt seem a great idea.

I dont think the prices of second hand games will be any different even if Microsoft takes a cut, they cant be. The stores will just have less profits(but they will still have profits). If the consumer doesnt really know any different and they buy the console in droves, then Sony will be kicking themselves for not doing the same(thats if they havent already).

The difference with Sony is that they haven't got this Azure Cloud infrastructure that Microsoft has to deal with all these licence transfers.

You appear to have fallen for the marketing pr guff hook line and sinker.

The sad thing is that the 40 quid a year everyone has been paying for Live has created this monster.
