**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

I think the main problem with the X1 is all the extra resources that are needed by the other parts of the console. The Windows OS spin-off as an example. This decreases the RAM that is available even more.

Saying all this though. The X1, to me, looks far more interesting than the PS4.
I chose my PS3 over the 360 because it was more of an all around media device and the 360 seemed to be just a core gaming device.
Next gen seems to of switched roles. The X1 being more media centric while the PS4 is focusing on games. This is why I'm finding more interest in the X1 at the moment.

EDIT: Sorry, as I'm sure this question has been asked thousands of times. But has it been 100% confirmed that the X1 can use an external hard drive? I ask because at the moment I have a HTPC and I'm thinking I could just move all my TV shows and Movies to an external HDD and plug it straight into the X1. Also I'm going to say that it's safe to assume that the X1 nor the PS3 support MKV playback, just MP4?

I certainly hope it's not going to be an overpriced MS one as with everything that's happened they do need to do something that will please people.

Depending how it all goes, I might have to pick up one of those WD Desktop drives if this is the case. I'm guessing between FM5, BF4 and FIFA i'll be looking toward 100GB.

Just took most of what was left of my PS3 games collection, and got £29 credit at CEX. Now have £30 towards, well, something? :)

Ah, right. But this time around the internal HDDs are not user replaceable.

Exactly which is why I'm thinking MS may be bringing out their own external drives to fit. Seems a bit odd that a "PC" doesn't support external HDD's straight out of the box don't you think?

I'm probably wrong but it's definitely doable.

Can't be bothered to read all the arguing lol, so will put this here; Has anyone else saw the DR TV spot? It came on last night as I watched WWE Smackdown on Sky Sports. Got me super excited for the next gen; even though I am not even getting a XBone, well not at launch at any rate!

Well, yes, can you imagine them shipping Windows 8 without support for external media. So they're either planning something as you say or they really have been caught with their CKs down by Sony and are rushing just to get the box out.

I know what you mean and it would seem silly for them to cut something like this out. I'd say in about 8-9months time you'll see 1/2TB versions of the XO, but whether we can upgrade our hard drives ourselves, we'll have to wait and see.

Looking at the internal photos of the XB1 the internal HDD will never be user swappable like the 360 in its current form. This looks more like a DVR in layout and design, this wouldn't stop anyone invalidating the warranty to replace the HDD but what we don't know is how or if you could actually get all the OS stuff from the old HDD and put on a new one.

They have already said it will take any USB 3 hard drive and will be fully expandable using that. (but not at launch)

That's easier than opening up a PS4 for the "non tech" masses and they haven't said anything about having to use a proprietary hard drive.

Does seem like the external drive may be needed if it starts to look full :(

I won't even respond to that.

How many games do you play at a time ? I dont really think its much of an issue for either console TBH, most of the time i may have say 3-5 games on the go at a time so thats 250GB max. If I had finished playing a game i would delete the install to free up room, and at some point i could just re-install it again. With the oringinal DRM for the XB1 i could understand why you would want to keep as many games as you can on your HDD but when you still have to put the disk in i dont think its as important.
