XBOX Project Natal

I want to see how milo reacts when the voice detection software doesn't understand my fen billy accent just like their phone line and I have to keep listening to 'sorry we didn't get that, please say again'

My missus' mum in the states has that Microsoft Sync in her car and it can't understand her, and she is American. It apparently is like the phonejacker.
'Play Random'
'Playing, Alanis Morrisette'
Then a rant lol

it's a ground breaking moment for gaming

If it works as demonstrated then it has completely re-written the rule book on every voice recognition, gesture recognition, facial recognition and AI algorithm and would be MAJOR scientific news.

It will not work anywhere near as well as demonstrated, and that is always to be expected of these things (The Wiimote for example).

For starters the hardware has finished development, it's the software that's in development. The hardware is only a couple of cameras and a couple of microphones, it's the software that's the really clever part of Natal.

Well we'll have to agree to disagree then, just be prepared for a few changes in the next few months.

This looks like a great development but reiterating what others have said I'm dubious as to how far they've got with it currently (in the respect that how well does it currently perform).

Great concept though and it does bring up some interesting thoughts on how they're going to get over some real-world problems to make the interactivity free-flowing and accurate. Very interesting.

Yeah, Wii motion plus confuses a lot of people as they thought the Wii was supposed to be like that out the gate.

Yep, I saw Wii Motion Pus for the first time in the Ubisoft demo, and thought WTF? Aint that how it works anyway?
Not having used a Wii I was blissful in my ignorance, Wii motiion must be a disappointment and suck.

The problem is, i bet someone with a pad would always beat someone using Natal, so why bother using it? It's like mario kart, if you wanted a chance of winning online you had to use a gamecube pad/the joystick on the nunchuck. For me (and i'm sure i'm not alone) i get enjoyment from playing a game as well as i can, not in a silly manner.

It'll be great for the casual market on that front, but isn't that what the Wii did too? Attract the casual market.

I don't think this is going to be aimed at the hardcore in the slightest. It's all about getting everyone else involved like your family etc (casual market).

Microsoft just wants part of the pie and they have been trying to get a piece for years and this might actually help...

I'm also the same, I play to complete games and thats one of the main reasons why I can't play on the Wii for a good amount of time as nearly every game just requires you to waggle at certain times. There is a few good exceptions on the Wii and from Microsoft tech demo of that painting program it looks like it might at least interest some of the hardcore market.

If this does work as good as they show wont Tony Hawks be a bit miffed?
Buy his peripheral for his game or if the price point is right buy the natal jobby and use it with your own board and for many other games?
( correct me if i'm wrong- just had a quick look over the E3 vid's etc)

That is what makes me think it wont work as well as demo'd. If it did, MS would have paid TH a right few quid to get his game exclusive and use as a launch title of natal.

Nope, you are right, I thought exactly the same thing when i saw the demo live.

Just looks like a gimmick to me, but i do hope they develop it properly so we get some nice games out of it
Spend £100 or so on a couple of cameras? i am a bit dubious to whether people will fork out that much for it

We live in a multiplatform world, so it is unlikely any big titles will invest a significant amount of time integrating this into their games and even if they do it will be a tacky addon much like most wii games so i can't really see it "redefining" gaming tbh :p

The Wii was the first major change in gaming control in 20 years, yes it's not perfect but it is inovative and points to what the future could hold. The first game pads were nothing like the all singing all dancing beasts of today. This is just another step along the path, I'm sure it will be far from perfect as the Wii-mote is and the NES gamepad was but eventually this will evelove into much more usefull technology that will probably alter the way we game forever. Just don't put your gamepads on ebay anytime soon.
