Xbox Scorpio

You would be loopy if you think TV manufacturers will be all on board this tech as soon as next year, HDR is still a mess at the moment with specs and different implementations, all this console does is manage to make buying a new TV even more of a minefield for the next few years whilst manufacturers mess about with specs and what not.

Not a good time to be in the market for a new TV at all.

I'll agree with that, its not a good time to buy a new TV. I was looking the other week and decided to just stick with what I have right now.

Think I'll probably end up buying a basic 4K TV for £300 or so just for the resolution increase and wait for all this HDR stuff to settle down. The games aren't going anywhere. HDR can wait.

Thats pointless as well, 4k not worth it. HDR + 4K only option, but cheap TVs with HDR so poor its worthless :(

may as well stick with great 1080p screen, with new xbox everything will look better

I only sit about 3ft away from my screen so I'm sure I'll see some improvement with just a basic 4K screen.

1080p will have 16af and aa, (xbox forces this on every game)

Pixels will be smaller, ps4 pro you may spot it but i'm not so sure with xbox one.

Decent monitor better idea?

I think it's a great time to buy a TV, the Samsung KS7000 (4k, 10bit HDR) has recently dropped in price. I picked up the 55" and a PS4 Pro, major upgrade from my old 40" Samsung 1080P LED and PS4 :)

Depends if you're patient and want something that isn't going to be out of date in a year!

Too many HDR specs for my liking, and with Variable Refresh Rate starting to make an appearance I'm happy to wait a bit longer for those two features to stabilise.

I waited patiently to update from my 8 year old TV, the price drop on the KS7000 seemed like a good time to buy alongside a PS4 pro. If I waited another year, I may aswell have waited for PS5 :p

Well after doing some reading last night HDMI2.1 is ment to be fixed by the summer. some sites think that sets will be available before the end of the year but if they are they will be the high end sets.

Caught between a rock and a hard place now, I have a 40" Philips monitor but its doesn't even have HDMI 2.0 and I very much doubt that the Scorpio will have a display port connection and 4k at 30hz isn't on my list of set ups I want.

So what to do, Sony X800D now or hold off a few months and see how it goes in the new year, if I wait on the TV I may as well wait on the Scorpio.

Curious, but nVideia has its Gsync, with AMds version, does that mean the TV companies have to choose one or the other to implement each kind of output?

Pretty much yep but i cant see any tv manufacturer implementing a G-sync module into there tvs it would be costly where as Freesync is royalty free.

I am sure we will see Freesync enables tvs in the future though.

I'm still debating whether I want this. I already have an Xbox and fairly powerful PC so maybe I am better off sticking to using the PC.

I was going to wait but theres no point, tech is moving at such a drastically fast rate now its hardly worth waiting, everything is out of date by the time you buy anyway or something newer around the corner.

We had a nice spell with 1080p and all its devices, recently everything seems to be moving at an incredibly fast rate now, maybe its just the crossover from 1080p to 4k but it doesn't seem like that because there is so many new little things that keep getting announced.
