Different generation of CPU surely? The tech they've used in the Scorpio is not much more expensive than what they used in the PS4 Pro. Most of the speed/TFs comes from the clock boosts. Its just the extra memory and 4K drive more or less that costs extra.
Different generation of CPU surely?
I know the CPU in the PS4 Pro is just an overclocked PS4 cpu, not sure why MS would be using this fancy cooling solution for a 4 year old CPU (albeit overclocked)

This would make more sense imo
they are not using RYZEN cpu just a heavily modified Jaguar cpu.Different generation of CPU surely?

I would consider it a no brainier at £400. If the Switch is £300 and then £65 for a pro controller (which I consider essential) then £400 is a bargain.
I'm willing to go as high as £500.
Sony fan? Bit of an improvement is an understatement. The specs are quite underwhelming compared to the hype surrounding it, unless you have a 4K TV you're unlikely to see any improvement over PS4 Pro. From what I've read all of the extra GPU grunt will be used for super sampling anti-aliasing at 1080P and the Jaguar CPU is a massive bottleneck regardless of clockspeed, it would have been a lot more promising had it packed a Ryzen CPU. I suppose it's still a bit of an improvement for Xbox owners since Xbox One has often struggled to reach 1080P.
It's a massive leap.
which is going to be completely irrelevant for new releases (not that it matters given MS seem to not really give a **** about getting new games on the platform), its all well and good showing Forza in 4k with all the settings on max but until we see other games more demanding and less optimised running its impossible to claim bottlenecks are a thing of the past.Have you read any of the Digital Foundry articles on Scorpio, mmj_uk? You seem to be out of date with your info. It's certainly not going to be using Ryzen. MS have designed the whole architecture around the games themselves. Specifically to eliminate bottlenecks.
Right so no games but omg its powerful so instabuy = the logic of so many on here. WTFyeah but exclusives or not, if the machine powers games that are on PC /X1 and PS4 better then even a good spec PC and you are in the market for a new TV next year and get one with VRR tech then this machine does still look attractive

Its just a refined version of the OG jaguar CPU. Running at 2.3ghz compared to PS4 Pro's 2.1ghz. The GPU is basically the same (but even more refined/modified) and running at 1172mhz vs the Pro's 911mhz, it also has 4 more CU's (40 CU's vs the Pro's 36 CU's).
So you see, MS has managed to squeeze a hell of a lot more speed out of the minimal hardware improvements. Coupled with the extra bandwidth for the memory it makes this even better at running 4K games. They don't really need a better CPU because the GPU/memory bandwidth will do the 4K heavy lifting.
Better CPU's will come next gen and enable all sorts of better features (like AI, physics and NPCs on screen etc etc) but because games on the Pro and Scorpio still need to have equality with the PS4 and Xbone a Ryzen CPU would be underused/not needed (would've been nice though).
I'd probably guess at E3.Any ideas of a date yet for a nice 4K demo video to drop?
Where do you get " MS has managed to squeeze a hell of a lot more speed out of minimul hardware improvements " from?
You say yourself that there is a 10% improvement on ghz and roughly 10% more CU's - yes the even more refined GPU, your words, has a 25% bump but as you would expect from a refining process surely?
Given the "exotic" cooling solution that a few preview articles have mentioned a healthy speed bump in all areas should be expected on a 4 year old CPU / GPU
Given that the Pro cost £350, and allowing for everything else internally to cost the same between the scorpio and the Pro, unless you expect MS to not charge for the refining process and the additional 4k player (compared to the pro) surely it has to be more like £450 +
