Xbox Scorpio

I agree, it's certainly not false hype, a very powerful console is coming which is good :)

Unfortunately I won't be buying it however, with my PC the way it is Play Anywhere means I can pick up the "exclusives" I want to play which in all honesty hasn't been many. In fact my XBox One hasn't been turned on this year at all, I don't have any reason or desire to do so.

PC/PS4/Switch combo is working out well right now for me.

More and more I'm leaning towards this. I want to keep my PC fairly up to date so might as well invest in the GPU and a VR solution. Still have my OG Xbone to play online on.

I'm really torn, my current position is that I don't have an Xbox.. I want one but do I wait it out for Scorpio or get an S? A well known retailer which has a name that sounds like "Rame" is currently doing a deal for 5 games at £219 and I'm tempted to grab it.

Please someone advise what I should do?

Can you afford / are you willing to pay the likely price tag of a Scorpio?

If yes - then scorpio (imo)
If no then get an S.

Buy the S, play it, if you want a Scorpio later sell the S and buy it. You won't lose much money if you value the games.

I will add that game are a terrible company to deal with however and would not replace my broken day one S. Avoid them for all purchases tbh.

Has there been any indication on cost?

Not officially as far as I know. But it seems like it may well have a premium price tag given the spec and the fact it will be a new release. The speculative concensus seems to be that it will retail in the £400-£500 region though.

Hopefully by mid June we will have some answers and the endless speculation / hype can be laid to rest! :)

Fingers crossed! :p

Buy it.

If Scorpio tickles your fancy then sell the S and upgrade.

Waiting tilll we get more details on Scorpio doesn't hurt. If anything, by then deals on the S will be even better if not just as good. E3 is around the corner and it's for sure they will show off the Scorpio and a possibility that they will mention price. I expect it will come in at over £400 though. If price is no issue, get the Scorpio, but otherwise get the S and you'll be fine. Though I will say a 4k TV is a must for either, but moreso the Scorpio.

One thing that i am afraid is the exclusive game for it. If there is no exclusive games coming during its launch, then what is the point for buying a new console. 4K? 60 FPS? My PC is more capable on it. BTW, have you checked that Microsoft is renewed the trademark for Scalebound? The game is being cancelled, so what is the point for renewed it?

Obviously interested to see what games are coming out which make use of Scorpio but I wonder how much of the existing catalogue will get patched with high res textures and resolution increased. I expect Rise of the Tomb Raider to get revisited and maybe Skyrim SE and Fallout 4 along with Forza Horizon 3 and Gears 4.

have you not read the stuff on Eurogamer?

Every game with a variable resolution will run at full resolution at the original FPS cap and things like AF will be increased for better visuals. this is by default without any specific patching.

You only have to look at the PS4 Pro to see how easy it can be for devs to patch current games.

Erm..it seems that's very 50/50 right now about what games are using any extra power the Pro has. Thats kinda the point of MS locking down bottom line quality for Scorpio.

I can only think of 2 or 3 games with dynamic resolution - Halo 5, Doom and maybe Battlefield 1. I'm sure there are more but not a big number. As for the library on PS4, the stuff that's got patched to Pro just seems to be a half-arsed mess. Mostly 1440p and wobbly frame rates.

I Imagine its be somewhat easier for MS first party as all there titles are already 4k 60fps etc on PC.
